Not in a long time has the announcement of a death in this community been received with such universal sorrow and regret as has the death of Edwin Nelson, who departed this life on Sunday morning, December 7, 1902. A week ago the deceased returned home from school at Ephraim, suffering from an attack of typhoid pneumonia, and before his friends hardly realized that he was ill, came the announcement of his death. Edwin Nelson was the son of Caroline D. and the late Fritz E. Nelson, was born in this city, and was nineteen years of age on the 29th of November, last. Some years ago the father died, leaving his widow to provide for and educate the family of small children. How well this was done is most eloquently told in her manly, ladylike, bright boys and girls. The taking away of Edwin in his young, manhood is a sorrow to the bereaved mother and family which no human sympathy sympa-thy can heal; heaven alone can solace their grief. Edwin Nelson was an exemplary young man in the very broadest sense of that term. Wherever he was known he was loved and respected for his manly qualities. He took a deep interest in the several religious organizations organ-izations of the city, in all of which he was counted as a most devoted worker. Some time ago he was called to labor in the missionary mis-sionary field, and was attending the Snow Academy to pn pare himself for that calling when death claimed him. Deceased was also a private in company F, N. G. U., of this city, and at the time of his death was serving the company in the capacity capa-city of clerk. He was a valued member and was loved by his officers and comrades. Funeral services will be held in the Tabernacle Taber-nacle this afternoon at one o'clock, and will be attended by the officers and teachers of the Sunday school, the Y. M. M. I. A., members of his class from the public school and the Academy, and company F, National Guard of Utah, who will bear the remains to their last resting place in the city cemetery. " The skies have put their mourning garments on, And hung their funeral drapery on the clouds. Dead Nature soon will wear her shroud of snow And lie entombed in Winter's icy grave. Thus passes life. As heavy age comes on, The joys of youth bright beauties of the Spring-Grow Spring-Grow dim and faded, and the long dark night Of death's chill winter comes. But as the Spring Rebuilds the ruined wrecks of Winter's waste, And cheers the gloomy earth with joyous light, So o'er the tomb the Star of Hope shall rise And usher in an ever-during day. " RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT AND CONDOLENCE. Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God to call beyond the veil our brother and co-worker, Edwin Nelson, who for many years has been a pupil, student and teacher in the Sunday School and Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association of Manti South Ward; and Whereas, He has always been faithful, energetic and useful in the works of charity, and those things for the uplifting of humanity, and was preparing to take a mission to preach the gospel of Jesus to the Nations of the earth; therefore, be it Resolved, That the officers and teachers of the Southward Sunday School and Young Men's Mutual Mu-tual Improvement Association take this method of expressing the great respect and high esteem in which we hold Brother Edwin. We feel that it was the will of our Heavenly Father; no doubt, there is a greater mission for him in Eternity; and be it further Resolved, That the bereaved mother and family have our sincere sympathy, and may the Holy Spirit cheer and comfort the bleeding hearts in this dark hour of affliction,- that they may acknowledge the |
