Show WORLD EDUCATION CONFERENCE OPENS PURPOSE OF CONFERENCE TO MAKE EDUCATION 'PLAY PART IN ELIMINATION OF WARS Fifty Countries Will Be Represented In Sessions Opening in San Francisco, Okland For A Week San Francisco, Cal. Delegates from fifty countries of the world and from every state and territorial possession of the United States gathered here Thursday for the opening session of the world conference on education. It has been estimated that at least 20,000 delegates will attend the conference. con-ference. In addition to the world conference several allied organizations organiza-tions will hold their conventions either here or in Oakland, across the bay, during the sessions. The main purpose of the conference as outlined by Augustus Thomas, chairman of the conference and one of the leading American educators, is to devise means of making education play a constructive part in the elimination elim-ination of wars and the establishment of peace throughout the world. The delegates, in addition to discussing dis-cussing their own national problems, will obtain a clearer insight into the problems and difficulties which corn-front corn-front educational leaders of other nations. Such an insight, it was pointed out, will aid materially in binding closer together mutual ties of friendship which will go far in erasing suspicion and distrust among the nations na-tions of the world. |
