Show The OGpEN VALLEY NEWS March PRSRT 1, 2006 STD POSTAL PATRON EDEN-LIBERTY-843 10 HUNTSVILLE-84317 HCR 843A0, Local Athlete Sets Sight for Gold Seventeen year old Dakota Hyde, son of Jeff and Bonnie Hyde of Ogden, is one of three Skeleton athletes to recently participate in a national ExxonMobil Olympic Games commercial. The commercial, which was filmed on January 23 at the Utah Olympic Sports Park in Park City, is being aired throughout the Olympic Games. Dakota first caught the Skeleton bug at the age of 14 after being chosen to participate in a Skeleton clinic. He competed in the Utah Winter Games Skeleton competition and won the gold medal! Approximately 50 people participated in the parade by holding flares as they skied/boarded down the mountain. Fireworks joined in as the last torch reached mid mountain. Large Landowners Invited to Weather Attend Informative Meeting The Ogden Valley GEM (Growth with Excellence Mandate) Committee, a group of Valley residents and agency representatives, is hosting a Large Landowner mecting on March from 6:30 to Snowcrest Junior High. The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to property owners regarding TDRs (Transfer of Development Rights), an alternative to the sale of large parcels for traditional subdivision development. Once a TDR ordinance is adopted by the county, landowners will be provided with more rights, options, and probably more money than would otherwise be gleaned LANDOWNERS LOCAL ATHLETE Contributes By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News from “selling the family farm.” With TDRs, property owners can benefit economically without chopping up prime open space The meeting has been organized as a result of Weber County’s recent adoption of the Ogden Valley Recreational Plan. Th plan calls for the adoption of alternative growth strategies such as TDRs. Since many landowners may be unclear about how TDRs work and the benefits from participating in a TDR program, the meeting has been designed to provide this information and clarify questions regarding this beneficial land use tool. In January, Dakota traveled with his team to train in Calgary, Canada. Dakota is currently competing in the Western Regional Championships at Park City. Later this month, he and the Junior National Team will participate in a memorial race held in Lake Placid, New York. Slick road conditions following a heavy winter storm on February 15 and 16 contributed to a rollover accident Pineview Reservoir Highway 158 in Eden. A 27 year old male driving a Ford Explorer westbound lost control of the vehicle and careened into the cont. on page 2 to Accident ide. The vehicle then rolled onto its side. Three male passengers were also riding in the vehicle at the time of the accident that occurred at around 8:30 a.m. on February 16. The driver was cited for driving too fast for conditions. Weber High Wrestling Team Captures Region Title—Takes 2nd Place Win at state competition By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News On February 1, Weber High School won its first wrestling region title since 2002 o the mats at the Region 1 championship tournament held at Clearfield High School. The Weber team defeated defending Region and 5-A state champions the Viewmont Vikings Weber was ranked number one going into the tournament, and was able to hold on to its position through the end of the competition. When the dust settled, Weber boasted having four top wrestlers with eight competing. Huntsville sophomore Lew Woolsey, son o Tracy and Casa Woolsey of Huntsville, defeated Layton’s Chris Moat 5 to 1, with teammate Dustin Martin, son of Mike and Brenda Martin of Eden, winning the next bout in a 5 to 3 decision over Fremont comi petitor Travis Krebs, breaking a 3 to 3 tie with a takedown with only ten seconds remaining in the match. Other local wrestlers who competed at Region include senior Nathan Hubbard, son of James and Jan Hubbbard of Huntsville, who captured a 2nd Place in 152 weight class; brother Logan Hubband, a sophomore, who gained a Sth Place win in the 135 weight class; and senior Dallas Hart, son of Vern and Lora Hart of Liberty, who captured a 4th place win in the 140 class. Dallas’ brother Chase Hart also competed, along with freshman Calem Woolsey; Huntsville junior Ryan Froerer; and Eden senior Bobby Neilson On Friday, February 10, the Vikings fought hard to take back a victory over the Weber Warriors, narrowly capturing the state 5-A title by less than ten points, and preventing the Warriors from winning their first state championship since 1956; Weber came home > Zions Bank’s Eden Valley Market branch has been awarded “Branch of the Year” in the bank’s Northern Utah retail region for the second year in a row. The surprise announcement was made February 7 before of 550 at the bank’s annual managers’ conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
