Mike Murrays monsters are at the top of the loop with an impressive record. No. Senior 1, the JuOnly niors, and Frosh No. 2' are left in the title picture. All three are tied for second with marks. The rest of the contenders are way back of the leaders with losing records. Soph No. 2 at Frosh No. 1 at and Senior No. 2 at 04 are fighting it out for the cellar. Most of the games have been forfeits. In games actually played, Sophomore No. 1 routed Senior No. 1 31-overpowered Soph No. 2 42-1and dropped Frosh No. 2 from the unbeaten ranks with a 42-- shellacking. Quarterback Dave Newman spearheaded the league leaders 4-- 0 3-- 1 1-- 3, 0-- 4 0, 8, 6 with some great passing and Don Hopkins has been a threat every time he has carried the football. The defense has also been a big factor for the Murray Monsters. The most exciting game thus far was the Senior No. 1 Juniors clash with the Seniors pulling out a 9 victory. Chris Segura lead the Seniors back from a 3 deficit to hand the Juniors their initial defeat. Bill Crow was the big gun in the Junior attack with his tremendous passing and running, but he wasnt enough to stop the Seniors. Frosh No. 2 was too much for the Soph No. 2 outfit to a score of John Hatton broke the Sophs back with some fine long runs. Paul Stevens one man show for the Sophs was in vain. It looks as if the Juniors will have a big say in this close race as they meet Frosh No. 2 and Soph No. 1 in their last two games. -- the favored by Marty Bernstein What is was was intramural football. At least that is what it was supposed to be. Now the whole thing has become a joke. Heres what has gone on. Approximately 50 guys making up seven teams sign up for football with an intent to play. So on the day of the first games, where are they? Thirty-fiv- e show up, five stay in the lounge, five leave campus, two play tennis, and three lounge, five leave campus, two play tennis, and three have labs. The seniors cant support two teams so they combine to make one. Frosh No. 1 shows up, but they find out that they forfeit the game because they are 30 minutes late. They become disgusted and quit. This leaves five teams. Thats not all. Soph No. 2 shows signs of dissension among its troops. Some will play, some wont. It depends on how they feel. By I-- the third round of play, ten more fellas head for town, or what have you, and 25 e men remain. act-tiv- t This whole bit may lead you to believe that these guys dont show up because they dont care. But what dont they care about? Ill tell you. They dont care to meet Mike Murrays monsters (otherwise known as Soph No. 1). I dont blame them at all. It scares you to look at these men. Here is the original monster mash. They have rolled over every opponent with considerable ease. There just isnt a way to beat them. They will go around you, over you, and through you. They are not just big they are enormous. They must weigh 200 pounds a man. Who says the bigger they are, the harder they fall? These guys fall about as often as Sonny Liston. Someone ought to the Shotgun Offense try on them. Just load up those shotguns and fire away. If that doesnt work, forget it. 24-1- 6-1- 45-1- Football Standings W L P,CT. 1 No. 4 0 1.000 Sophomore Juniors Senior No. 1 Freshman No. 2 Sophomore No. 2 Freshman No. Senior No. 2 1 3 3 3 1 1 1 13 0 4 0 4 .750 .750 .750 .250 .000 .000 STUDENT LOUNGE Open from: 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday Evening O 7:30 P.M. KCPX (1320) Radio Campus News, Opinions, & Innovations The second annual D Day football game will be under way tomorrow with the opening kickoff at 3:00 in Dane Hansen Stadium. From the look of things, it will be quite a duel. Both the ANEMIC ELEVEN and the PARSNIPS have been getting in shape for the past weeks doing push-ups- , s i t - u p s , passes, blocks, tackles, and running plays. Their sores and pains will be forgotten' when they clash on the gridiron tomor- row. According to scouting reports, the Anemic Eleven, composed of senior and junior girls, is the team to beat. Coached by RON NAY and GAY JOHNSON, the Anemics have a fine team loaded with many of last years players. The Anemic Eleven will outweigh their smaller opponents and have also the experience over them. With such talent as ELAINE ELDER and DIANE TUCK, KATHY SCHWERTZ, MARJORIE CASTLE, GINGER GORE, and many other veterans, the Anemics wont appear too anemic. When Parsnips coaches LEON REYES, RAY CLARK, and BUTCH PHIPPS were asked about the Anemics Weight advantage. They replied, What, us worry? They feel that the freshman and sophomore Parsnips are not as green as they look, because the team will have speedy veterans NANCY MILLER, the Parsnips leading and only scorer of last year, KATHY FRIEHAUF, JUDY DONALDSON, PAM HIRSCH, and LINDA SHIELDS. Along with the returning sophs, the team will also contain some spirited and fancy freshmen. VALEREE HOWE and NANCY MILLER are the Last years game, which ended in a deadlock, gives a good indication that this Saturdays action will be exciting. The teams have worked very hard and have lots of talent. There are also hints that professional scouts will be at the game, but who knows? Anyway, the spirits are high, and may the best women win.
