That is exactly what Alex Incorvaja has done. Incorvaja is a freshmen here at Weber State this year. He is originally from Malta, a small island off the coast of Italy and the site where the peace treaty was signed in World War II. He started playing tennis at the age of six with his mother's encouragement. She was a champion tennis player in England 30 years ago and was Incorvaja's first 4 coach. Incorvaja played and competed in Malta while a tecnagerand was the Junior Class Champion when he was 14, 16 and 18-years- man, while Utah counters with five seniors. "It is difficult to play your first match under any circumstances, but against one of the best teams in the region with so much experience it puts extreme demands on our players," Cox said. "We hope we are able to play them again later in the year. I know we will do better." The teams may meet again in March at the UC Irvine tournament in Southern California. While the outcome didn't please Cox his players performances did. Each player worked on the match skills that the team has been working on during practice. According to Cox most of those lish here-that this team is a 'family' organization." Thiese said. "We want a good team on the field but we also want a good product in the stands that will enhance the enjoyment of the event." The winner of the contest will receive two season ticket packages which will include tickets to all eight Pioneers home games plus four universal tickets in each package, good for attendance at any Professional Spring Football League regular season game in the 10 stadiums across the country. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to be the mascot for the Pioneers of defer that right to a person to be named by the team. "I should be able to watch my players in action and not know weather they are winning or losing by their attitude or behavior." The bright spot of the night was the play of freshman "VP' Mannisto. VP won both his singles and doubles matches for the cats. He defeated Jay Quimby, a junior college transfer out of California, 6-3, 6-3 in the number five singles. Each college tennis match features six singles matches followed by three doubles contests. "VP started out a bit nervous but settled down and really dominated his opponent," said Wildcat assistant coach Wendy Compton. Beware of Associated Press DENVER Superb snow conditions at Rocky Mountain ski resorts are attracting plenty of downhillers, but soaring prices for ski lift tickets are putting ski plans on the skids for many. At Aspen and Vail, Colo., lift tickets are $40 per day for adults, $27 for children. Prices at many other well-known Rocky Mountain ski areas range from $30 to $35-plus per day for adults. At that rate, lift tickets cost $410 to $520 per couple per week. On top of that you need transportation and lodging. However, affordable ski packages and discounted lift tickets are available if you know where and how to shop. Consider the less expensive midweek andpost-holiday or end-of-season passes,frequent- or multi-day skier discounts or lower-priced tickets or coupons sold at gas stations or grocery stories near the resort. In general, planning ahead saves the most money. But low post-holiday season rates are in effect Jan. 3-Feb. 14 at most Rocky Maltan tennis Incorvaja is a left-handed player, which Keith Cox, Weber State's tennis coach, believes gives him an added advantage. "Alex 's left-handed game helps him against his opponents because he is able to catch them off guard," said . Cox. Being six feet three inches tall has also been an added advantage for Incorvaja. "Alex is very lean and tall giving him a powerful serve that is very hard for his opponents to return. His height also gives him a lot of reach, letting him cover the ball fully," said Glen Woodward, Weber State tennis player. Coach Cox also believes Incorvaja's height adds a lot to his game. "He is a .very aggressive player with a ft tremendous serve and volley and his height gives him a better angle on the ball," said Cox. Incorvaja believes his strongest aspect of the game is his serve Compton feels that the biggest victory for Mannisto was the one over himself. "VP has been nervous in tournament marches played in the fall. For him to play so well in his first team match is exciting," she said. The men's next outing will be an alumni match this Saturday at the Ogden Athletic Club beginning at 4:30 p.m., the public is welcome.
