Is a book well known to every justice cf the ptMcev, iTAvlK-mg lawyer and I'tiblio otUcer ' in l.liaois a.nd the Northwestern Slated and j ! Territories, a the most Urel'ul and comi'lete work ol the kind eiuut. j It hai lately been revised by the author, and materially improved by the addition of i mui.-h important matter, giv in all the late laws and published decisions down to lSt;-This lSt;-This book has, up to the present time, reached reach-ed a larger sale than any other work of the kind in this country. This lac I may be mentioned men-tioned ai evidence ot" its superior merit. Its I excellence consists both in the matter embraced, em-braced, and the arrangement or classification classifica-tion ot subjects. Iu the collection of matter contained in the wok it is intended to give all the statute law and the general principlei of the common com-mon law in connection therewith, which a justice of the peace, polica magistrate, con-stableor con-stableor coroner will require in discharging their duties, or that a practicing lawyer will need for reference in ordinary cased, or that may be required for the information of every business man. This will entirely supersede the necessity for reference to the volumes ol the statutes'. Ihe arrangement of the work is methodical, methodi-cal, and cf tho essence of its value, presenting present-ing each subject in its order and in its proper relation with others. The plan of the arrangement is entirely original with the author, being the result of study and practical experience. It has long been a subject of general remark that the author has, in this work, presented tho law with a clearness and simplicity of style which ren I ders the whole alit-'e plain to the common understanding as to the more advanced lawyer. law-yer. The justi-.-e-of the peace, police magistrate, constable, and coroner will find in this book all tho necessary forms and instruc i tions in regard to every branch of hjs duty. Tho practicing lawyer will find in it, col lected and arranged ia convenient foroi, all the statute law and decisions, with referenco to adjudicated ctsos applicable in ordinary practice. The business man will find in it a complete collection of forms' required in the transaction transac-tion of business. Students of tho law will likowise find this a very valuable work for perusal and reference, refer-ence, as containing the general principles of the common law, clearly stated, in connection connec-tion with the ordinary branches of juris prudence. pru-dence. The following brief referenco to the contents con-tents of this work will afford in some. degree an idea of its peculiar merits. The book is divided in five parts, the subject of each being be-ing methodically arranged in chapters or appropriate ap-propriate subdivisions, as follows : Part 1. Of Justices of the Peace, election and qualification, and proceedings proceed-ings before them in civil cases. Comprided iu thirteen-chapter.-, treating ; 1 Of the office of justice of the peace. 2 Of the jurisdiction of justices uf the peace. 3 Of the different forma of action. 4 Of the commencement of suits, nnd the eoirice and return of process. 6 Of pleadings. 7 Of witnesses, compiling the attendance thereof, taking depositions, and of oatha and affirmations. affirma-tions. 8 Of the trial, and incidents there to. 9 Of evidence. 10 Of the docket, and forms of docket entries. 11 Of judgment, costs, and filing transcrip t.
