We spent the day in Panguitch visiting with members of 4-H groups from around the state. So many of those youngsters that competed were so calm and smooth with their cutting abilities. We were pleased to be able to photograph them. Cassie will have a proof sheet of winners if anyone wants one. Those that ordered will see theirs in two weeks. And Cassie Lyman – thank you for asking. The smiles on those youngsters faces was her reward for a job well done. Maybe someday we’ll have an indoor arena and more east county folks will attend. Congrats to Pratt Gates for his Cowboy Award. Cassie will have a wrap-up in the next edition. Council meeting was pretty routine except for the Capitol Improvements list of projects to be submitted to Five Counties. On the one-year list – 1. Dixie Regional Adds Advanced Technology in Cancer Care The Huntsman-Intermountain Cancer Center at Dixie Regional Medical Center will host an open house on Oct. 22 from 4-6 p.m. The event to celebrate the arrival of a new stateof-the-art Trilogy linear accelerator will be held inside the first floor, 400 East entrance and is open to the public. The new linear accelerator benefits patients by helping medical experts deliver enough radiation to a moving tumor to eliminate it while minimizing the amount of healthy tissue that’s exposed to the radiation. “This state-of-the-art system will enable us to treat patients with advanced radiotherapy techniques, using the most clinically efficient processes,” said Dr. Craig Donaldson, medical October 15, 2009 director of the hospital’s cancer program. “It provides us with tremendous versatility and precision for customizing treatments according to the specifics of each patient’s case.” In addition to delivering conventional forms of radiation therapy, the Trilogy system can be used in treating very small lesions quickly and with extreme precision. It can also compensate for any movements a patient might make during treatment, as well as normal respiratory motion. “We’re able to treat cancers with radiation more precisely than ever before,” Dr. Donaldson said. “That means we can treat tumors that were caught at a very early stage, when they are quite small as well as larger tumors. We’re able to target just the cancer and spare the normal tissue surrounding it.” The system is able to concentrate radiation doses on the tumor while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. That translates into faster treatments, greater patient comfort, and better outcomes. “Better diagnostic tools are making it possible for us to see tumors much earlier, when they’re still very small,” said Dr. Donaldson. “A system like this is the future of cancer care.” In addition to cancer, doctors can use the system to treat benign and malignant brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations, trigeminal neuralgia, and other neurological conditions. What a cutie he is!! Driving up the street the other day to the school I about ran off the road when I discovered the house of Dana and Emilee Courtright was GONE!! Oh that is neat because that means their new one is on the way to them. They can hardly wait. Right in from the home of Brandon and Holly Baugh is coming along wonderfully. It is so hard to wait for a new house to be finished. Out on the way up to Bryce the home of Damon and Megan Brinkerhoff now has all the shingles on the roof and it is looking great. All these new homes are wonderful because that means we have people living in them and not moving away. Thank you to the Chad Nells for dropping in on our Intrigue workshops.
