George Ruel Hislop Missionaries Elder Logan Bushell, son of Randy and Ruth Ann Bushell of Eden, has returned from serving in the Argentina Mendoza Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will report on his mission on May 25 at 12:45 p.m. at the Eden Ward II. Elder Joshua David Tanner, son of David and Teresa Tanner of Liberty, has returned from serving in the Managua Nicaragua Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He will speak at the Liberty 1st Ward. Hailey Zenger, 18, daughter of Eric and Teri Zenger of Huntsville has attained the award of Young Womanhood. She is a member of the Middlefork Ward. A reception was held in their honor that evening at the Hearthside in Eden. The bride is the daughter of Calvin and Kathy Welling of Eden. Parents of the groom are Monte and Karla Chugg of North Ogden. He is a graduate of Weber High School, and served in the Austria Vienna LDS Mission. She is also a graduate of Weber High School. The couple will live in Slaterville until returning to school in the fall at Utah State University. Newey-Bowden Jason and Jen Bowden were united in marriage Friday, April 25, in the Bountiful LDS Temple. A reception was held in their honor at the Rendezvous Lodge in Huntsville. The bride is the daughter of Paul and Lesley Newey of Huntsville. Parents of the bridegroom are Junior and Toni Bowden of Roy. He is a graduate of Roy High School and served in the Canada Toronto East LDS Mission. She is a graduate of Weber High School and is employed at Goldenwest Credit Union. The couple will live in North Ogden following a Caribbean Cruise honeymoon. He died on April 28, 2003. There were ten brothers and two sisters in his family. The birth order: Curt, Alice, Pete, Jack, Que, John, Dean, Sherman, Lowell, Wendell, George and Jane. George is survived by his wife Grace Hislop of Oakland, California; one sister Jane Brubaker of Salt Lake City, and one brother Sherman Hislop of Provo. A son, Jaydee preceded him in death. He became father to these many children and he loved us all. The natural surviving children are Randy Hislop, Becky Strayer and Bobbi-Jean Bagley. Also, Hope Saito, Joy Jay, Russell Patricio, Kaleo Patricio, Micheal Patricio, Rex Patricio, Jeff King, and Todd Trost. Grandsons: Skyler Bagley, Travis Bagley, Colton Bagley, Brandon Doelle, Shadrach Doelle, Ian Crockett, and Jeffery Jaydee Hislop. Also, Kimo Patricio, Aulani Patricio, Jeff Patricio, Alika Patricio, Joshua Perry, JohnMarcus King and Derek-Dean Trost. Granddaughters: Megan Hislop and Jennifer Foucault. Also, Faith Saito, Megann Saito, Rebekah Saito, Tanya Rapozo, Tasha Silva, Jenna Jay, Kelly Jay, Anuhea Patricio, Johnna Patricio, Hanayo Patricio, Seneca King, Lindsey Trost and Emily Trost. Great-grandchildren: Kaylyn Patricio, Kaleb Patricio, Ryan Rapozo, Camryn Rapozo, Keoki-George Silva and Asia Silva. Also, Tyler Foucault, Casey Perry, and Kylie Perry. There are numerous nieces, nephews, and their extended families to whom George showed affection. They, in turn, loved him, too. George was born and raised in Huntsville, Utah. As a very young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he spent 24 years of service. The highest enlisted rank he held was E9, Master Chief. He was a cargo master. The highest commission rank received on active duty was O-4, which is that of a Lieutenant Commander. He retired in the Reserves as an O-6, which is full Captain. During his active duty service in the Navy, George served in WW II, in the Korean War, and Viet Nam. While in Viet Nam, he ran the stevedoring operations at Cam Ran Bay and Da Nang. He was also a graduate of the transportation management school of the U.S. Navy. After his Navy career, George worked as a longshoreman on the waterfront for over 35 years. He was a Walking Boss/Superintendent for the A.P.M. (Maersk) Stevedoring Company and Marine Terminals. He was a dues-paying member, first with I.L.W.U. Local 10, then with I.L.W.U. Local 91. His second career began on the ports of Oakland and San Francisco. His mentor was Mr. Isaac “Old-As-Dirt” Hughes, who in time became his best friend. Mr. Hughes was responsible for teaching George, as well as many others, how to operate equipment that was used in their industry, in a safe and productive manner. George loved “Uncle Ike.” George was also employed as a consultant in maritime legal matters. His expertise, experience, and knowledge regarding waterfront issues was highly regarded by many. George loved people. He loved life. He was kind, generous, and a good provider. He strived to be a good man. His core belief made him a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He embraced his large, extended family and everyone loved him, too. He always gave others the benefit of the doubt. It did not matter what race or nationality. He was always ready to help those in need and never sought to be recognized for it. His life at work and at home was the same. He was upright and honest. You knew where you stood with him. George loved beautiful things. As a world traveler, he collected fine art, artifacts and many other things. A scholar and a gentleman, he befriended King and Pauper alike. At home port, he took pleasure attending to his beautiful roses, orchids, plum trees, and his favorite Fuji apple tree. He loved his friends. He loved his family. Most of all, he loved his beautiful Grace. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 9, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden. Interment, Huntsville City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard. During her short, but precious stay she fulfilled her mission upon this earth and returned to her Father in Heaven. She is deeply loved by her parents, Zach and Angie Burton; her grandparents, Rob and Colleen Burton, and Craig and Sue Haslam; and by all who shared in her time on this earth. In those few hours, she brought with her greater peace and love than can be described. We love her and are thankful for the time granted to hold her in our arms. We know she’ll always be with us. Graveside services were held at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Ogden.
