Show Page 8 Lehi Free Press Thursday, September 27, 1979 Farm Bureau Announces Contest - "Pesticides Food or Bugs" is the topic for this year's essay contest, sponsored by the Utah Farm Bureau Federation all entries must have the contestant's name and complete address, class telephone number, of entry, and for youths living with parents, their guardian's name. The deadline for the Utah County contest is Oct. 26, say officials. Prizes for the contest are: first prize in each class, $30; second prize in each class, $25; and third prize in each class, $10. Essay contest rules are available at the Lehi and Intermountain Farmer's Association. Reid Wayman, Farm ff' A ' Vf - Bureau spokesman, said the essay contest is an annual event to focus community attention on the part the farmer plays in the overall economy of our country. The contest is sponsored locally by County Farm Bureaus with county winners in each of the four class groups competing in a state contest. Bureau officials explained the four classes which include all youth and adults. Class I includes elementary school ages, Class II covers junior high school ages, Class III includes senior high school students and Class IV covers college students, farmers and Vtrse, Free Press. Arnold Hog Ranch Sweeps Honors State Fair The Arnold Hog RaWh in Lehi brought home 19 state fair awards Lett Girl Wins Blue Ribbon For Quilt Am ambitious summer project paid off for Linda 12, when she Webb, received a blue ribbon at the Utah State Fair. A colorful and imaginative quilt was put together, quilted in an original design and completed with peaked edge, for Linda's winning entry. "When I made the quilt, I thought we'd quilt it outside under the trees, but it got too hot so we put up the quilting frames in the living room," Linda grinned. "She worked on it steady for three weeks," smiled her mother, Dixie. The quilt is made of an animal print cotton fabric. Linda quilted around the animals and also around the sayings which went with the nursery notif of the material. She also designed the quilting pattern used to border the quilt and the peaked edge completely around the full size comforter. The quilt was started as a project but when Linda saw that she could baby quilt she had made. She also entered a pair of knitted booties which won a blue ribbon at the County Fair and a second at state. Linda has attended Relief Society with her mother for more than two years. She's made pillows, picture frames, silk flowers, and has helped her mother as assistant secretary in the Eleventh Ward Primary. Ingram Receives Honor Community's Recreation Service Division.
