Show •-O' A-8 The Park Record Sat/Sun/Mon/Tues, November 27-30, 2010 Nightly Lodging Tally MARKETPLACE Projected Tally for week of Nov 28 - Dec 4, 2010 Family-friendly Italian now at Chateaux Cena Ristorante & Lounge opening Wednesday, Dec. 1 By ANDREW KIRK of the Record Staff The Stein Eriksen Lodge took over management of The Chateaux at Silver Lake last summer and that transition will be complete Dec. 1 when the hotel's restaurant and spa reopen with new names and concepts. The restaurant, formerly Bistro Toujours, is now Cena Ristorante. Stein Eriksen Lodge food and beverage director Zane Holmquist said it will be family-friendly Italian at prices to attract Salt Lake City diners. "It is expected to be a great amenity to the hotel," said Chateaux general manager Greg Gendron. With spaghetti and meatballs on the menu along with several pizzas, Holmquist said he won't be surprised to see tables enjoying $500 bottles of wine next to tables with children drinking soda and chewing on flatbread, "We're a neighborhood eatery," he said. Holmquist, who is also executive chef at Stein Eriksen Lodge's Glitretind Restaurant, made a calculated decision at The .Chateaux. v "Everyone is going Upscale with the St. Regis and the Montage; they're going fine dining. We decid- ed to do affordable price points," he said. So many guests at The Chateaux and at nearby lodges are families with children. Cena will be a place where they'll feel welcome, he said. The executive chef is Chris Wellmon and Holmquist said the menu was designed to showcase the talents of Wellmon and the kitchen. "I wanted to do something where I could have fun with the food and let Chris have a great time," he explained. The wood-burning pizza oven has six giant doors that remind Holmquist of submarine hatches. Besides pizzas, the oven makes incredible baked items and flatbreads, he said. "It's a monster - the size of a Volkswagen," he added. Family-friendly also describes The Chateaux, Gendron said. The property is three stars and proud of it. The hotel serves a different kind of clientele than its neighbors while still delivering the level of service guests to Silver Lake expect. Gendron predicts getting a lot of business from the resort. The lunch, apres ski and dinner offerings are perfect for casual diners, he said. And with one of the largest underground parking garages in Park City, he also welcomes Salt Lake people wanting to experience Deer Valley for a day. The Italian menu is a mixture of authentic dishes that will coincide with the season - like butternut squash raviolis - along with New York-Italian dishes like PARK CTTY REAL ESTATE A N D YOU , Craig TP' •{•: , CRS INSULATING YOUR COMFORT Insulation is the first line of defense for keeping cooling and heating costs in check. Winter lets out the warm arm and summer lets in the hot, so good insulation is essential to help resist the heat flow to keep the 'good' air in and the 'bad' air out. Todays homes are usually well insulated, but even home less than ten years old can almost always benefit from added padding. Start at the "top" with your house. More heat moves up and through the roof than through your walls and floor, so head to the attic first. Adding insulation to existing walls can be cost prohibitive, but keep it in mind if you're planning a remodel. Also find out whar the right amount of insulation would be for your home. Things to keep in mind are the climate you live in and your home's design. The Energy Department will provide rough estimates for minimum installation levels in six climate zones, but for a more accurate answer, check with a local building department. Radiant barriers aren't a type of insulation, but they can reduce cooling costs anywhere from 210%, depending on the climate and the insulation in the attic. The lounge is just outside the restaurant and will host live music on a small, intimate stage seven days a week from 3:30 to 5:30, Gendron said. The idea is to attract skiers to come over and relax for a while before heading home or to their condominiums. Mountain Horse Medical Center is offering two free seminars next month for horse owners. The center opened 17 months ago in Silver Summit and began the classes last summer, explained owner and head veterinarian Charmian Wright. Since opening, the hospital has expanded its staff and now has five vets, one of whom is a board certified surgeon and another who is "board eligible." That allows the center to offer what Wright believes is the best care available for 500 miles. Vet Tracy Wright also cares for the needs of small animals and farm animals. The center is open to all species 24 hour a day, she said. In addition to offering highquality surgery and routine care, one of the missions of the center is community education, she said. The monthly Client Education Seminars are usually on the last Thursday of every month starting at 6 p.m. The goal is to cover topics pertinent to horse owners such as avoiding colic, providing good nutrition, hoof and foot care, and internal medicine. Roughly 60 people attend the meetings. The next seminar is Dec. 16 and will be by Dr. Wright about equine gate and locomotion. In addition to monthly seminars, special events are also held periodically. On Dec. 9 the center will host one covering performance issues of equine athletes for trainers and barn owners in the area. In spring another will be held on general wellness covering topics like vaccinations and worms. Next summer a horse first aid seminarisscheduled. Wright said the center has many clients from Wyoming and from as far away as Las Vegas and Jackson Hole, she said.
