Show ELIZABETH S 11 TALKER ALICER mrs elizabeth walker of hinckley a pioneer resident of utah died at the advanced age of 88 at the home of her daughter mrs G A robison on sunday mrs walker was born in switzerland december 25 1851 and came to utah with her parents in 1861 settling in santa clara instrumental in the development of that area of dixie she was active in the duties and activities of the L D S church and was prominent in the relief soc society lety for over thirty years she was also a member of the ward choir she was the mother of eleven chil dren six of whom are still living 66 grandchildren and 64 great grand children and one great great grand child surviving ing are the following frank C walker pioche nevada mrs T af hinton hurricane mrs N A peterson provo mrs J avery bish dish op delta mrs airs G A robison and mrs george stewart both of hinck ley two brothers john Sta hell and frank both of st george two sisters mrs rosena reber and mrs barbara both of santa clara mrs walker has enjoyed good health and was active up until short 11 before her death she had gone to dixie to visit a daughter and her brothers and sisters in santa clara when she was stricken and brought home and in several days death came she would chave been 88 years old an december 25 the life of mrs walker is one ot of the interesting pages in utah and L D S church history she was the daughter of george and sophia iia ha berlle berlie who were converted to the L D S church they made the thesria thes rip to utah during civil war days when travel was extremely dit dif ficula from new york to missouri and from there on mrs walker a little girl ot of nine walked the en tire distance the family arrived in salt lake city in september 1861 and were sent to the dixie country then being settled arriving there in october mrs walker s rn memory emory was keen and her reminiscences of early days were unusually interest of their arria al in santa clara another baby girl was born to the parents and on new year years s day a flood swept by the fort and the mother and baby were car ned ried out by jacob hamblin the ifa fa indian scout when mrs wal I 1 er grew up she worked in jacob hamblin s home she was married in 1870 to frank clements walker in st george and later the young couple set out for salt lake city to go through the old endowment house a trip that took them two weeks with a load ot of cheese for the city both as a young ster here and a young married worn wom an mrs walker knew hardship and her life was spent in building up this country mr and mrs walker moved to nevada when they had one child and ranched at spring valley for many years where the rest of the family were born in 1892 they moved to hinckley then organized with the church and school built and made that their home ever since mr air walked died there in 1907 with their family they also raised a fos ter son jacob felix whom they bro t flom switzerland as a lad of twelve during the many years of her life in fit hinckley mrs walker served in in many any ways in the church working in the relief society sunday school and mutual as president and teach er she worked in the mutual awen ty ears eara and in the sunday school twenty five years and also did tern tem pie work she was a councillor in woodland stake relief society for a number of years and was active in community affairs and highly es teemed as a friend and neighbor funeral services were held tues day in the hinckley ward the choir and the singing mothers sang aaa oa 04 mrs mary reeve gave a sketch at of the life of mrs walker the speakers continued on back page ELIZABETH WALKER WALI CONTINUED were rulon hinckley charles strat ton jos T finlinson bishop henry graft graff of santa clara and bishop harold morris the funeral services were largely attended and out of town members of the family here were mr air and mrs frank walker and three sons ow en orvil and clements and their families from pioche and a daugh ter mrs fay pay findley from mr air and mrs N A peterson and mr and mrs verne bullock from pro vo mi and mrs airs george Bolls Boll weil swell er fiam salt lake city mr air and mrs frank from washington mrs barbara stuck and amanda graft graff and henry graft graff from santa clara and mr air and mrs jacob felix from Spring springville ville frank beckwith notary public |
