M. L, While hunting near the Coast of Florida a few daya since, it was my TECES IFIIsrZEST misfortune to witness sickening g and scene, near a bayou. My companion and self had been hunting two or three days previous near the locality, and shot four deer, one f which ran toward that epot, so badly wounded that I .thought it would fall within two hundred yards of the place at which it was' shot; but as we had as many as we desired for that day, we did not trace it. On our return two days afterward, to hunt Dear the same place, I noticed buzzards flying sear the spot where I suspected that tho deer had gone, and suggested to my companion to go to it, just to satisfy myself that I was correct in my surmise, and also to show him how accurately I could shoot; for he continually taunts me with the number of deer that carry with them evidences of my poor marksmanship. On approaching the spot the stench was so unpleasant that we were in the act of retracing our steps, when I noticed a buzzard hop as if chased, and insisted on going far enough to be satisfied that I was correct. On nearer approach, a most horrible scene was before us. About twenty paces from a bayou, a number of immense alligators were keeping off a flock of buzzards from a partially eaten and decomposing body ot a human being, and near by, the carThe head and cass of a panther limbs of the human being were severed from the body, and were scattered in an area of fifteen feet. The head was bruised, scratched, swollen and eaten so that it could not be. recognized, except that it was a white mans. Nearly all the flesh was eaten off the bones, and so recently, too, that the trace of large teeth were noticeable. The carcass of the A lanre. vtan also devoured. heavy sailor's knife, stained with blood, was near the trunk of the human being, and there were other evidences of a desperate struggle for life between tho man and the pan fcherv As we approached none of the guardians over the dead moved until my companion threw a heavy pine knot into their midst, when the smaller retreated to the water, the larger moving sullenly in that direc tion, but never going iarther than the edge, all the time closely watch ing every movement we made. When my companion began to collect the bones of the man for interment, while I held both guns, the aillSrrafm.a tli a od rrp Vifip.nmfl mom" feroeious andUbout ten rushed madly towards us. We stood our ground, and fired four times, fatally wound ina, if not killing, as many alligators I looked toward the bayou and its surface "was covered with, alligator heads as far as the eye could reach, which came toward the Bhore,. 1 sup nose to learn the cause of alarm. As we did not wish to wage war with the alligator kingdom, amid the steach which was nearly stifling, we STOCK a- - at Ogden Junction Office mm SiIks' GENERAL MERCHANDISE!
