Show THE BEE HIVE STATE The state land board lias leased a section of the bottom land of the Great Salt Lake to John E. Dooly, one of the owners of Antelope island. It is the purpose of Mr. Dooly to mine for sodium sulphate on the grounds, from which, according to the terms of the lease, the .state will receive 10 per cent of the proeeedr. Cache county wants roads, and good roads, and is willing to build them. If the state cannot furnish, money to do its part in road construction in that county, the county commissioners say they will undertake to do their part and that of, the state also, in order to get the federal aid available. The work of getting out plans and specifications for a new ward chapel at Brigham City is now under way and they provide for a building that will meet every requirement of the ward in the way of auditorium, classrooms and amusement hall. The 'cost will approximate $2G,000. A free clinic is to be established in Logan by the Cache Valley Medical society co-operating with the city and county commissioners. The members of the society will give their service free for the purpo : of making examinations exami-nations of children and adults who have physical defects. A mass meeting attended by two hundred of the representative business men of the district was held at the Bi-ngham Commercial clubrooms to protest against what is declared to be a discriminatory' freight rate to the camp from the coal mines. Former Governor William Spry may become a member of the directorate of the National Chamber of Commerce, to .represent the eighth national district, dis-trict, which comprises Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Ogden will hold a special election on March 26 to pass upon the question ques-tion of issuing $2,025,000 bonds for city improvements, including waterworks, water-works, sewerage, street paving, storm sewers, bridges', sidewalks, fire department de-partment and parks. Spanish Fork's free library and read-' ing room opened to the public March 1. While the library at present boasts only a few more than 2000 volumes, the selection se-lection is good and will be added to as often as the funds permit. The beet-growing contest which the Utah-Idaho Sugar company provided for boys in the Delta community proved successful last year and the company is now sending checks to the successful contestants. Final agreement on all terms of the 1921 sugar beet contract was reached at a conference at Salt Lake of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company and the sugar beet subcommittee of the Utah state farm bureau. The Salt Lake Rotary club has .adopted a resolution urging the state legislature to make an appropriation for carrying on the work of the state board of health in the treatment of social diseaf es. Miss Alice Blomquist, of Salt Lake, is in a Salt Lake hospital suffering from severe burns. She suffered an epileptic fit in the kitchen at her home and fell on the stove. Al Ringling, recently found guilty of murder in the second degree for the killing of John (Frenchy) Bartholomew Bartholo-mew in Price in 1911, has been sentenced sen-tenced 'to life imprisonment. George Psalidos, an employee of the Utah Copper company, was seriously injured at Bingham when a blast was set off near him on the level where he was working. The farmers in the Sutherland community com-munity are now busy getting in spring wheat. Several hundred acres have been seeded during the past two weeks of good weather. Postal receipts in Salt Lake for the month of February show an increase of 7 per cent over the corresponding correspond-ing month last year. There is talk of a new hospital at Provo. Funds are to be raised by the Wasatch, Juab, Nebo, Alpine, Tintic and Utah stakes. Plans are being made by the Bank of St. George for the erection of a new building in the spring. Salt Lake City proposes to expend about ?1.2."i0.000 during 1921 for sewers sew-ers and paving sidewalks. A new school building is to be erected erect-ed at Richmond, the school board having hav-ing advertised for bids. . The city of Logan is planning to lay considerable sewer during the coming season. It is proposed to do considerable street paving at Pleasant Grove this summer. The Utah Agricultural college debating de-bating team won from the Montana State college team in the first intercollegiate inter-collegiate debate of the year, held at the college chapel ct Logan. The Utah Aggies were given the unanimous unani-mous decision of three judges.
