Show Auto Accident Costs Higher For Seventh Consecutive Month An increase in traffic accidents and in the number of persons killed and injured pushed the total economic loss from automobile auto-mobile accidents in July more than $220 million higher than that recorded for the same month last year, the Insurance Informati6n Institute reported. The estimated economic loss due to traffic mishaps throughout through-out the U.S. in July was $1,486,081,000 a 17.4 per cent increase in-crease over July of a year ago. This loss resulted from an increase of 3 per cent in fatalities over July of last year, and increases of 14.7 per cent in traffic accidents and 11.4 per cent in traffic injuries. It was the seventh consecutive month of 1969 to show an increase over the economic losses of the same month a year ago, the Institute said. Based on figures supplied in official state motor vehicle accident acci-dent reports, the total estimated economic loss for the first seven months of 1969 stands at $8.4 billion compared with $7.3 billion for the same period last year a gain of well over $1 billion. In July there were 5,030 deaths and 534,430 injuries resulting result-ing from traffic accidents. |
