Show BAND STAND TO BE CREDIT TO CITY AND CLUB B. P. W. Club's Major Project Calls for Classic Form of Architecture That the band stand to be erected in Pioneer park will be a distinct credit to the city and to the members mem-bers of the Business and Profes-soiial Profes-soiial Women's club, is indicated by a sketch of the proposed improvement improve-ment recently submitted to the members mem-bers of the city commission by Architect Claude Ashworth, which in the mnin is said to have met with the approval of the city officials. The structure proposed in Mr. Ashworth's plans is of the Roman Doris style of architecture. It is to be 38 feet by 25 feet in dimensions with a base of cement concrete. If the plans submitted are adopted, there will be two rows of columns with a covered colonade forming a semi-circle. In the front and the lower portion of the stand will be the band stand, while the upper and back portion will be adapted to the needs of the city for open air entertainments such as pageants, children's dances, or meetings. It is expected that the stand will be placed near the west center of the park, where the front of it can be seen for a long distance. It has been Intimated by the city officials that an effort will be made to erect the stand during the present pres-ent season. The building of a band stand is the major project of the Business and Professional Women's club, which organization already has been successful in raising a substantial amount of money as a nucleus of a fund to which the city will give its assistance. |
