Show DRY LOSES W c IN republican d i CLUB r L UD MEETING enthusiastic endorsement of the of carl it R marcusen for glate state treasurer tre insurer lh tho instructing of the secretary to write to other similar clubs the support of the local candidate and u r telegram to mr marcusen who was in salt lake tell ing him of the dubs action was one of ef the leading P features of the meet ing of the young mens republican Republic aa club last friday night this action did not take nearly so long hing however as the disposition of a diy daiy resolution introduced b by oraon guymon upon the introduction of the resolution J A 11 mac knight moved its adoption and the motion WAS is seconded by john A mathis the call for remarks by the president was as followed by a pronounced silence and ind the question was about tu tv be put to a vote when L A mt ace ee took the toor in opposition to the resolution mr mcgee seated that he believed in temperance but that be he did not believe in state wide prohibition as gedid le did sot zot think it the right way wal to handle the liquor question he stated that he be thoroughly believed that both loth parties would adopt a dry in their sute platform and that hj would be willing to support the platform and abida by the will of the majority he ile further stated that as carbon county was the wettest in la lh aak taku it wan not a party standpoint judge F E woods followed mr mcgee in op rosing rosi 0 the resolution emphasizing 09 the fact that be he was speak speaking inc iron from a party and not from n a personal standpoint he lie end endorsed orbed all the statements of mr mcgee and further called the attention to the fact that it would be rather embarrassing for a carbon county delegate with a dry resolution in his pocket to approach a wet delegate at the state convention at ogden and ask the opp opponent hopponen onen 4 of prohibition to support F mr marcu maren bea for treasurer R J turner spoke briefly on the matter opposing the reo resolution lution on the grounds that it was premature and he also alsa maintained that price was much better off ot as a wide ops town than at present and abit it would be in a sorry plight without saloon revenue A J lee expressed the belief that the proper place for the disposition of the resolution was at the county convention and that the club should take no action in the matter mr macknight who had moved the adoption of the resolution spoke bear Lear tily in favor of stating instating it that he was sure that prohibition was coming and that carbon county should be in the lead rather than in the rear he lie further stated that he saw the point of the argument advanced by the other speakers and was willing to withdraw bis his motion the matter was settled by the adoption of a motion to refer the matter to the county convention but no committee was appointed ti hindle the matter and no provision made for getting it before the larger body A suggestion ug WAS made that the young mens biens republican club of price should endeavor to form clubs all ever over the county but some members questioned whether it was really up to the club to take the initiative in this matter and a committee consisting of P F E woods orson guymon and 11 W cooper was appointed to tahe take the matter up with the county central committee at its meeting next monday before the ie county convention reports were called for from the ward captains ins and anil it was found that a ull full list of block captains had not yet been appointed the ward ard cap ains vere instructed by president R L E Claw cloward artl to get busy sat t once organizing their districts and to get all the republican voters out at the primary friday evening of tah tha week As the club has frequently discussed the proposition of entertaining the ladies and organizing a young ladies republican club it was decad ed to hold a free dance after the primary at city ball hall friday night albert pace R J turner and A J lee were named as a committe ee to secure an orchestra and provide punch onca and a collection was taken abir I I 1 amo to sufficient to detray expenses one tio thousand usand big bia pictures of hughes were ordered and these will be e posted liberally over the county there were abbat 60 men present at the meeting and 14 new names were added to the club roll during the ie evening |
