Sherise Coombs sang "Prairie Lullaby." She was accompanied by Pat Nelson. Brad Spaulding, Mike and Susan Christiansen and Beth James formed a quartet to sing "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." They were accompanied by Nedra Spaulding. Tributes were given to the two Milford Ward Bishops, Carlyle Gronning and Ira Mitchell Fisher. Bishop Gronning served from 1942-4at which time Bishop Fisher was called. Carlyle was again called as the first bishop of the new Milford Second Ward and served for two years in this calling. Bishop Fisher served from 1945-4George C. Goodwin was the last bishop of the original Milford Ward. Shirlene Barnes paid tribute to the bishops of the Milford First Ward. Leon Gay 1975-7Jay L. Hiatt 1978-81981-8E. Sullivan Lavar Davis Gary 1988-9Keith James 1994 present. In all, thirteen bishops and twelve men who had served as counselors were in attendance. Bishopric counselors and clerks were recognized for their efforts and each was Wives of the given an appreciation scroll. bishops and other leaders were given a vote of thanks. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in visiting and renewing old memories with one another. Refreshments were provided by the Relief Societies and the Committee. Bonnie Hardy's collection of pioneer artifacts adorned the hall stage. Karen Nelson and Bonnie took charge of the refreshment table. Those attending the reunion from out of town were: Carlyle and Blanche Gronning of Salt Lake City; Carlene and Bill Jensen; James and Barbara Briggs of Manila; Jack Goodwin of Salt Lake City; Gael and Doris Elmer of Ogden; Lamar 1952-5- 6; 2; 1; (leothermal Road: Representatives Pacif-Cor- p from met with commissioners Monday to discuss road surface and safety conditions. Contestants were judged on the talent, interview, swim suit and evening gown presentation. Heather won both the interview and talent competitions. Jenny placed first in the swim suit competition, and Angela was first in the evening gown competition. Heather is a junior at Harvard University. She is pursuing a degree in Russian Literature and Culture. She is the daughter of John and Susan Craw of Minersville. Angela is the daughter of Mark and Janet Nelson. Jenny is the daughter David and Carolyn White. The royalty will preside over events at Beaver County Fair this week. Fisher said his bosses may ask what the company is getting for their remaining half million in tax dollars. 5, 8, Milford, Our Lady I Commissioner Chad Johnson asked if the company would be willing to participate in an improvement district, with the county would creating the district, selling bonds, building or upgrading the road, and the company repay ing over a period of years Joe Fisher, general manager of the Blundell answered that plant, Johnson s figures would represent a 10 net increase in the plant's operating budget. "There is no way that we can absorb $ 100.0(K) per year in operating cost," he said. Beaver County Royalty the bishops of the Milford Second Ward. Gael W. The Mayor has officially filed for As of press time, only David Lake has filed for councilman. Beaver: Mayor James Robinson has filed for His sole challenger to date is Roger C. Murdock. Council members Ann Marshall and Robin Bradshaw are both running for another term Robert (IJob) Beal and Clarence Pollard have also thrown their hate into the political ring as prospective councilmen. Minersville: Mayor Howard Pryor says he is willing to serve another term if the voters want him. No comment yet from councilmembers Michelle Barton or Robert Craw or anyone else. .' 4-,- . r By Norman Baxter - A few weeks ago I was reminiscing of the 1930's and remembered that as we drove each day to the King David Mine, there was an area east of Frisco where the old road bed was visible. I mentioned it to my son Curtis and he was ready to go look for it. He, his son Joshua and I, found the old road. Curtis cleaned out a section of it and swept out the dirt. In 1873, Milford was the end of the Railroad. The Horn Silver Mine hauled their ore by wagon to the railhead. There is almost k a hundred feet of where the wagon wheels had cut down into the rock. And those grooves are 12 to 15 inches in depth. We took these pictures to who how interesting that area bed-roc- is. Left to right: Erica, Melissa, Sara, Preston andJanyce Pope . The "Milford Our Lady" pageant, presented July 25th and 26th on Library Hill, was narrated by Doug Pope. The Pope family played the part of a pioneer family. The musical pageant, first presented as a part of Milford's Centennial celebration, was written and directed by Gayle Gale. She added a little pioneer history to the original script in honor of the Sesquicentennial. See page 2 for more. If you are interested in seeing the road, it is not difficult to locate. From Main Street, go west on 1 for 12.6 miles. As you come U-2- to that area, you will see ahead, the old railroad roadbed crossing in front of you. The old wagon road si about two hundred yards east of that.
