This morning marked the opening of the second period of intensive training. Rigid foot maneuvers will bo in the. programme for the. next two weeks, followed by the individual battery firing fir-ing on the artillery range. Heavy Clothes Issued. In preparation for the hard foot-work, foot-work, each artilleryman received a ne pair of army shoe'y this morning from the battery' supply sergeants. Woolen breeches were also issued, in view of the, cloudy and chilly weather, which is expected within a few days, marking mark-ing the beginning of the regular coast rainy season. Following the issuance of footwear this morning the batteries marched to the huge drill grounds, where they were taken back to the days of their recruit work and put through the most simple maneuvers again. Kaeh day the maneuvers will contain more complicated compli-cated movements, until lhe graud finale fi-nale will see the entire number of organizations or-ganizations which form the regiment drilling in mass formation. Non-coms Resign. Resignations of scores of non-com missioned officers who have been s. lected to enter the officers trainbjp camp which opens in the e.antonm'TT!, next. Monday were received at regimental regimen-tal headquarters this morning. The candidates can-didates are compelled to forfeit their rank in order to enter the school. There thev will be ranked as privates and will receive privates' pay.' The fortunate for-tunate ones who were selected were dismissed from all duties, so that. Ihev could make arrangements for the transfer trans-fer to the school early Monday morning. morn-ing. Rudy of headquarters companv; Private Clifford Clif-ford O. Ridges, A batterv; Private Alma C. Phillips, A batters, and Private Pri-vate John A. Frank, C battery. Utah Relatives Arrive. Scores of TTtah people, relatives and friends of the artillerymen, lia. e decided de-cided to remain in San Diego during the winter months, and have taken apartments and houses in Ihe city. Many Utah pcoplo are still arriving daily to visit the soldiers. The latest arrivals at the San Diego hotels are Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Thornherg, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Wilcox, Wil-cox, Mr. and Mrs. J. The phvsicians report re-port that ho will leave the hospital, in ample time to enter the officers training camp Monday. Charges havo not been filed as vet against Captain 7!. F. King, who has been absent from his command in Ihe regiment without leave fin- some time, and, according to the, statement made, tonight, will not be file, until the time expires when he mav return without, with-out, being classed a? a deserter.
