Show Boost County Valuations For Taxes lilllon Dollars The assessed valuation of Provo increased more than half a million dollars in the past year, according to County Assessor Charles E. Hawkins, who has just finished his annual an-nual report to the state. Utah county, too, shows a remarkable increase, despite the losses sustained in the Strawberry district. The county valuation will go over $53,000,000, according to Mr. Hawkins and Assistant Assessor Don Conover. The increase in Provo is due to the new properties built, while the county increase is due in large measure to the steel plant, the mining activities in the Tintic district, and improvement im-provement work done by the railroads, the Utah Power & Light company, and the Mountain States Telephone company. The Nebo school district will show an increase of nearly a million dollars despite the closing of two banks in that district. dis-trict. Springville shows an increase of about $50,000, all due to new property improvements. I The plant of the Columbia Steel corporation was valued at $G00,000 on January 1. The plant then was in course of construction. Mr. Hawkins estimates that next year the steel plant will be valued at $2,500,000. The steel plant valuation is added to the Nebo school district total. This with the mining increase in the western part of the district and improvements by railroads and the I l.'tah Power & Light company, gives the Nebo district a possible increase ;of between $$00,000 and !?000.0u0. The increase of Nebo valuation -comes as a decided surprise to the : residents of the district. Reduction , in range cattle valuation, and farming farm-ing property, with yc closing of two banks in the district, had prepared pre-pared the citizens for a decrease. ! The assessor's valuation of Springville Spring-ville property is placed at $l,;io4,oio as compared with $1,27(1.1 Hi last year. To this must be added the state total, which last year was $345,(MS, and which probably will be slightly increased for this year. The Alpine school district valuation valua-tion will be about the same as last year's total, according to (he assessor's as-sessor's estima tes.
