Show SHOPS GET SET FOR FALL SCHOOL HEEDS With the 1953-54 school season just around the corner, Sugar House stores, from clothiers to paper cutters, began this week to stock up on back-to-school wares. And from kindergarten to college, col-lege, young folk began to anticipate antici-pate the school bells which will toll farewell to summer on September Sep-tember 1. Olympus high school, newest educational ed-ucational unit in south-east Salt Lake, will open its doors for the first time at its elegant new edifice edi-fice on 23rd East near Holladay boulevard. Westminster college,, too, with nine new board of trustee members, mem-bers, was being painted and pointed toward fall term. Kieth O'Brien in Sugar House took the first jump on back-to-school merchandising, and billed a bright fashion show Monday at 3 p. m., L. L. Halverson, store manager, man-ager, reported. Miss Sugar House, the lovely Marianne Parlos, and her ciiarm-ing ciiarm-ing attendant Kathryn Cannon bedecked be-decked themselves out in some of the attractive KO'B lines taken directly from Mademoiselle, national na-tional magazine for smart young women. Other fashionable shops like Jar-nel's, Jar-nel's, LaRei's, Marianne's, Mode O'Day, Granite Mart, J. C. Pen-ney's, Pen-ney's, and other .stores, too, were planning gay fall lines for school misses. Bud's Men's Duds and Binghams, Southeast Family Shoe Store, Knight's Shoes, Tip Top, Riley's and other shops for clothes and shoes, were bringing out their finest autumnal footwear. Furniture dealers, South East, Granite, Sterling, Forsey, Nilson's Rockwood and Holland, planned displays that would lend a touch of fall as summer fades. Builder supply houses and lumbermen, lum-bermen, too, were catching onto the spirit of fall, and were suggesting suggest-ing basement playrooms, dens and other indoor and outdoor building build-ing before cold weather sets in and cuts off a new building dream. Thousands of school kids, from five years to grandpas, were looking look-ing forward to the new school year, and were planning to finish out the summer vacation time in a hurry, for autumn education and football will soon pervade the entire en-tire atmosphere in these parts. |
