Pleasant last Tuesday, and a strong ticket was put in the field for the suffrage of the voters at the November Nov-ember eelection. Candidates for the respective offices were not numerous and only in a few instances were there contests, and they were of little lit-tle note. J. M. Knighton, of Gunnison, Gunni-son, and former mayor of the city, was chosen by acclamation for the office of-fice of four-year term commissioner. For sheriff, George Fisher, the present pres-ent incumbent, had it all his way and the convention selected him by acclamation. ac-clamation. Carl Erickson, also of Gunnison, was named for the office of surveyor and there was no opposition opposi-tion and lie was the unanimous choice of the delegates. G. R. Nielson, one of the leading democrats of the north end of the county, and whose home is at Mt. iPleasant, was chosen . permanent county chairman. Following the deliberations of the '(Convention the delegates, together ( with a hosts of visitors, heard Milton H. Welling, candidate for United States Senator, and James W. Funk, Democratic nomminee for Congress, in brief addresses. The Republican party of Sanpete county held a convention at Ephraim last Saturday, and after a battle royal, especially for the office of four-year four-year term commissioner,' placed the above ticket before the people for the coming November election. The convention con-vention was marked with a feeling of more or less selfishness, when the mention of the needs and wants of South Sanpete was made, and the only nominee placed on the ticket from this end was C. M. Madsen, for '.he office of representative. Parley Christiansen, who has served as commissioner for the past two years, and who was highly endorsed en-dorsed by his home town delegation, was out for the office of long term commissioner . His announcement was made some time ago. An organization, organ-ization, however, comprising Manti, Ephraim and Mt. Pleasant, blasted all hopes of the south Sanpete candidate. candi-date. The combined efforts of the three delegations held control of the convention and on the first ballot Dyreng won out by the small margin of twelve votes. ';" Following the convention a reorganization reor-ganization of the party was effected and J. T. Oldroyd, bishop of Ft. Green, was elected county chairman. |
