Show Page 14 The Ogden Valley news Volume XV Issue VIII April 1, 2008 Community Storytelling Festival Planned for Ogden Valley Third grade students from Valley Elementary recently attended a Weber State University Storytelling Festival held at the Megaplex 13 in Ogden. Storytelling festivals, as we know them, are a relatively new presentation of an ancient art form. Since time immemorial, the wise ones—the elders—gathered young and old around them to retell the ancient tales. In our own day, that role has been taken over by less personal electronic storytellers—radio, movies, television, and, even ipods. However, within the past few decades, a resurgence of the aged art of oral storytelling has blossomed across the country. It is the enchantment of the teller, the story, and the listener woven together in a moment outside of time. The Ogden Vallley news would like to help promote the bringing together of young and old in a storytelling festival of our own. Community members are being asked to visit with a neighbor, friend, or family member and record in writing a story they are willing to share—perhaps an interesting tale from the past. It may also be an experience they have already written down, perhaps in a journal or as part of their written life story. Maybe the person who left the account is no longer living. Maybe it’s a story you remember about a loved one or friend—a story that was humorous or memorable. It may also be a story from a more recent time that illustrates a valuable lesson learned, or a life-changing experience. What ever type of story it may be, we’re asking you to share it with The Ogden Vallley news—and, perhaps, with the entire community. On Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m., we will select a few of the stories to be read at the Ogden Valley Branch library at our own community storytelling festival. If desired, you, the storyteller, may also bring pictures or other visual aids to enhance your stories. Storytellers of all ages are being sought. Stories may also be printed in The Ogden Vallley news. Please bring your family and friends for this delightful experience. And remember, everyone has a story to tell! What better way to save these sage and humorous tales than by writing them down and sharing them. Please send stories by mail or email to: WHITE TAIL cont. from page 1 the encroachment of noxious weeds, such as cheat grass. reproduce faster than mule deer, with yearlings often reproducing (with mule deer, it takes two), and white tail more commonly delivering multiple fawns. Differences on the white tail include smaller ears, tannish-colored coat, ringed eyes, smaller size, and white tail that lacks the dark-colored tip characteristic of the mule deer’s. The real estate market and its current fluctuations, as well as the significant credit problems facing us in America are impacting us more negatively than ever before. In the past month, USA Today reported that we passed the one million mark of mortgages in foreclosure right now. Even worse, over three million homeowners are behind in their payments and at risk of foreclosure. For the first time in recorded history, home equity in the United States dropped below 50%. Consumers are facing the largest unsecured credit balance in history as well. And not because they are charging up more on their credit cards, but because when faced with the choice of making their mortgage payment and making their credit card payment, mortgage will win every time. Once you have a late payment on your credit card, the interest rate goes up dramatically, exponentially increasing the balance due on the consumer debt. While these factors are daunting, there are “experts” who are claiming that they have the answer to credit work-outs, to living within your means, and teach that we must “spend less” to be able to cure this problem. We overlook and often don’t see the opportunity of living within our means in another way. We have a choice – we know we must live within our means, will we spend less, or make more money to do it? I suggest that if we choose to spend less, that we will not stay long with that program. We might give up our daily hot, frothy drink at Eden Coffee and Cocoa for a short time, eat out less for a while, maybe even rent a movie instead of going to the theater for a few months. But we will grow tired of living in our “scarcity” environment, hate the feeling of being “deprived” of our luxuries, and struggle to stay on the path of restricted spending and diminished lifestyle. And the days of refinancing our home and paying off our credit cards, then charging them to the limit and refinancing again three years later are gone. We are no longer in a real estate market that has the consistent high rate of growth, and we have seen the credit score requirements to qualify for a better rate on a refinance, or to get a home equity line, continue to rise. And thus, our spending has slowed. And of course, lack of consumer spending is what creates a recessionary environment. It is a vicious cycle that we must escape from in order to thrive. So our answer must be finding more effective ways to earn more money while eliminating our debt. To be entrepreneurial, to own our own business, and create multiple streams of residual income, and be able to leverage our “TERMS.” That is, leverage our Time, Energy, Resources, Money and Strategies. Even Warren Buffet, chief financial expert and entrepreneur, stated that the best business to own is one in a network marketing environment. The benefits? Low cost of entry. Low cost to maintain. Great training programs. You can leverage your career risk because you don’t have to “quit your day-job” to become involved. There are ample opportunities to be in professional environments, if you are not one for health and wellness or lotions and potions, there are very credible opportunities available today that can provide multiple streams of income based on a single action. There is a very viable debt elimination and wealth creation organization that has over eight methods of revenue and income production. It is easy to find out information on many organizations by attending a teleconference or webinar explaining the programs offered without having to worry about spending all night at a recruiting meeting. You can legitimately eliminate your debt, and earn income at the same time, addressing the most pressing issues of our time. As consumers, we must take action. We must find better ways to make more money, grow that money, and use those funds not only to maintain our lifestyle, but to plan for a prosperous retirement. It is possible. So, what will work for us? We need a new and a fresh perspective, and the confidence to aggressively seek out solutions and strategies that will go to work for us, rather than us working so hard for the money. I am talking multiple streams of income, especially residual income. The kind that we make happen once, that will then keep happening for us. You shouldn’t spend your golden years working a part time job, hoping it won’t disqualify you for social security or other government benefits. And your retirement plan today should not be based on an expectation that you will be in a lower tax bracket (thus receiving less income) when you retire. You should plan to retire wealthy - at least be comfortable! It is all about the knowledge. If there were such an opportunity available to you, when would you want to know about it? Wouldn’t yesterday or last week, or better yet, ten years ago, be the best time for you? Well, those days are past. What you have is today. You can acquire the knowledge and find the experts that can show you the way to earn these multiple streams of income. To earn residual income. To eliminate your debt. The appropriate way to invest in real estate. The value of a 700+ credit score, and how to get one. The right tools to earn your money, to grow your money, and to access your money in a taxeffective way. Get the knowledge, get the resources, and get on your way to a debt free and prosperous life.
