Hughes on Juno 5 mado his first public address since tho opening of tho preconventlon campaign. Ho told tho young women graduates that tho flag meant "America first, an undivided un-divided allegiance, and a nation united unit-ed and equal to its tasks." "This flag means moro than association associa-tion and reward," said tho Justico, "It is the symbol of our national unity, our national endeavor, of our national aspiration. It tells you of tho struggle for Independence; of tho union pro-served; pro-served; of liberty and union, ono aud Insepnrablo; ot tho sacrifices of bravo men and women to whom tho Ideals and honor ot tills nation havo been dearer than life. "It means America first; it means an undivided allegiance. It means America united, strong and efficient, equal to its tasks. It means that you cannot bo saved by tho valor and devotion de-votion of your ancestors; that to oach generation comos its patriotic duty, and that upon your willingness to sacrifice sac-rifice and enduro, as thoso beforo you havo sacrificed and endured, rests tho national hope." |
