CLEMONS Staff writer of The Signpost E Welcome to the scary side of the universe called "Freejack," where the future is insignificant. Alex Furlong (Emilio Estevez), a soon-to-be famous race car driver, enters the new realm running a race against death! He has no idea that his life is about to change. At the time when Alex is about to die in a smash-up car race, he is picked lip from the year 1991, and taken to the year 2009 by The snatch lab,' (laboratory to kidnap dead bodies). The head-man Va-cendak (Mike Jagger) is supposed to send Alex's body to a new owner, McCandless, played by Anthony Hopkins. But this plan is set back when Alex survives the crash. Alex becomes a running fugitive with a price of ten million on his head. Accordingly, heisknown as a "freejack" (a person whose body becomes owned by someone new and whose mind is to be replaced by that of the new owner). McCandless views Alex's body as a chance for immortality because it is free of sickness and addiction; preferable characteristics for bodies intended for "psychic surgeries." Because McCandless sees these qualities in Alex, he becomes relentless in his pursuit of him. During Alex's escape attempt, he meets ap with his old love Julian (Rene Russo), now 18-years older. Julian sees Alex as an impostor who has already stolen Alex's body. There is no middle-man in this future. Emilio Estevez and Mick Jagger brought comedy to an adventure where life becomes a battle, with the body as the prize. Alex's and Vacendak's characters are known enemies, but they re ) spect each other. Vacendak has a special respect for Alex because he, himself, has never had to fight drastically for his own mind, body and soul. Estevez and Jagger gave the characters a sense of humor with an added human touch. Anthony Hopkins was great as McCandless. He fit the role of a greedy industrialist who can't accept death perfectly - especially after his role as the cannibalist psychologist in "Silence of the By DEBBI TIMSON Staff writer of The Signpost Last May's acappella musical production of "Echo Re-Echo," by Valerie Dunlap, will be going to Fresno, Calif, for the American College Theatre Festival, Feb. 11-16. Jim Christian, director of "Echo Re-Echo," submitted the musical and three representatives from other campuses came to WSU and reviewed it for the Festival. "Echo Re-Echo" was selected to attend the prestigious festival in Fresno. The ACTF is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts and its primary purpose is to recognize excellence in college theater around the cruntry. The festival culminates every year in a 'ECHO RE-ECHO' The Weber State University Performing Arts Department will be having a bake sale in the lobby of the Val A. "Freejack" is a mixture of adventure, action, romance and comedy. It strives to say that nothing is ever certain in the future, but instead is reflective of what people make of it. This movie can make the imaginations of the audience members soar. California program put on at the Kennedy Center. The cast and crew of "Echo Re-Echo" were invited to participate in two segments of the festival. One segment is the "Plays in Progress" where "Echo Re-Echo" will be presented in its entirety. There will be a critique session afterwards. Another segment is the "Festival of Scenes" where highlights of "Echo Re-Echo" will be performed. There will be a benefit performance on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Monson Theatre. There is a suggested donation of $5. All donations will go toward the groups' trip to California. This will be a great chance for people who missed it to come see it, and for people who already saw it to enjoy it all over again.
