Paintings of Joseph D’Agnillo at the Ogden Valley Branch Library An art exhibition featuring the paintings of Joseph D’Agnillo will be on display in the Lorna Wattis Swanson Gallery of the Ogden Valley Branch Library in Huntsville. The paintings Joseph has submitted for his exhibition include some that have been created recently. Many pieces in this showing feature the use of nontraditional materials, namely copper. The use of copper leaf is not new to the art world. Research indicates that many artists, dating back hundreds of years ago, have used silver and copper leaf as a background to achieve a luminous quality to their work. “To prepare the surface before beginning the creation process, I first treated and sealed a wood panel, then applied a layer of copper leafing. I was pleasantly surprised to find how well the copper leafing accepted $25 Gift Card With New Or Transferred Prescription Valid at Various National Retailers and Restaurants oil paint and also how some degree of luminosity occurred.” Joseph D’Agnillo lives in Huntsville, Utah. He’s a senior resident who enjoys the pleasure of spending his time pushing the envelope of his painting skills, a l w a y s striving to improve. Joseph has a varied background in art, including: commercial art, architectural design, and design drafting. Fine art is however, is his final and largest challenge. Joseph’s inspiration comes for nature. “I am strongly attracted to the natural beauty of our area and attempt to record some of my special moments with paint.” This exhibition will be on display at the Ogden Valley Branch Library from May 14 through June 25, 2008. Square Foot Gardening Foundation Presents Hero Garden Box Gift The Square Foot Gardening Foundation launched their Hero program on Earth Day Tuesday, April 22 at the Salt Lake Veterans Hospital, at the GEM Gardens. Army Sergeant First Class, Purple Heart Recipient Gordy Ewell and family were presented the Hero Garden Box Gift, a standup or wheelchair gardening box. The SFG Foundation continues to host this program to honor handicapped war veterans who live in the region serviced by the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital. The SFG Foundation works directly with veterans, donors, and the Salt Lake VA hospital to present Hero Garden Boxes to deserving veterans. Square Foot Gardening Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Eden, Utah, strives to raise the awareness of the price war veterans paid for our freedom, and the challenging road to recovery faced by these heroes and their families. SFGF wants to honor the sacrifices made by these valiant veterans. We believe that by giving these heroes an opportunity to independently grow a garden, it will be a healing practice throughout their recovery, and will continue to enrich their lives. The wife of one such wheelchair-user gardener said about this innovative gardening method, “Square Foot Gardening gave my husband back his smile!” The SFG Foundation is headed by Mel Bartholomew, inventor and author of the best-selling book, All New Square Foot Gardening, Cool Springs Press, publisher. Incidentally, Bartholomew served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Field Artillery. SFG provides a successful and fulfilling long-term gardening experience. With a raised garden box filled with a new soil mix—Mel’s Mix—a simple no-tools, no-digging, no-weeds garden is the result. If you are a war veteran or know one of these genuine heroes who would be interested in receiving a standup or wheelchair Square Foot Garden Box, please contact the SFG Foundation at info@SquareFootGardening. com or, for more information, visit <www.
