Show WORK MAPPED OUT R T J General Understanding Reached About Legislative Action BANKING AND CURRENCY IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES IN THE COMMITTEE Hence For the Present No Effort to Take Up Financial Legislation Will Be Jrlade1 on the Floor of the House Radical Measures to the Bear Ra Washington Dec Although no formal for-mal action has been taken a pretty general understanding has been reached reach-ed by the leaders in the house of representatives repre-sentatives as to the course of action in near future I includes the disposal of ready appropriation bills as fast as they are BANKRUPTCY BILL The bankruptcy bill will be reported i by Chairman Henderson of the judiciary judic-iary committee before the holiday recess re-cess but will not be taken up by the house until after the recess It is understood un-derstood that Speaker Reed and the committee on rules will be disposed to give this bill all the advantage in the bate way of securing early time for de FINANCIAL LEGISLATION I is equally well understood that for the present there will be no effort to take up financial legislation on the floor of the house This Is due mainly to the fact that a strong impression prevails among members of the house that the committee on banking and currency will not be able to reconcile the many conflicting interests inside the committee These represent all shades of the financial subject and are so much at variance that it Is not expected ex-pected a majority can be rallied for any one proposition Under such circumstances cir-cumstances the purpose is to await mittee the action of the deadlock In that com BROAD LINES When it becomes evident that the committee on banking and currency is at a standstill then the ways and means committee will frame a bill on broad lines calculated to meet the present financial requirements In the meantime the subject will be kept in the background a much a possible OUT OF THE WAY Aside from the bankruptcy and appropriation ap-propriation bills some emergency measures meas-ures such as that relating to Bering sea introduced by Mr Hitt will have a hearing as they involve questions of general policy and are unlikely to meet with opposition With these exceptions the disposition of the house leaders will rear be to keep radical legislation to the |
