Eighty teams participated in the tournament consisting of players from 815 years old. The tournament began on Friday with each team playing two pool play games that would determine the seeding for Saturday's single elimination tournament in their respective age groups. The older Gunnison team met up with Wayne County and Millard on opening day. Using strong pitching and defense, they defeated Wayne County 6-1 and later, in a close battle with Millard, came out on top defeating the Eagles 5-3. After these two initial pool play games, Gunnison was seeded into the tournament and played Carbon in their first game on Saturday. The boys played well, and with good hitting and pitching, defeated Carbon 11-0. Next they faced Piute in the semi-finals and again, using the same formula, defeated Piute 6-0 which allowed them to advance to the championship game on Saturday night against Kanab. In what turned out to be a barn burner, Gunnison defeated a very strong Kanab team in two extra innings by a score of 5-4. Gunnison's 12 year old all-star team consists of Gage Mogle, Drew Hill, Carson Hansen, Cole Stewart, Kyle Petersen, Jaxon Christenson, Brayden Burrell, Parker Stewart, Cole Brailsford, Kolton Roberts, Kayson Barton and Parks Bartholomew. Their coaches are Alan King, Blair Anderson, and Johnny Anderson. Gunnison's younger allstar team began their tourna- ourtesy oto Gunnison 12 year old all-stars at the Richfield tournament. Gunnison Valley High School junior Braden Harris participated in the NUC Combine in Salt Lake City last week and came away with honors. Harris, at 6'3" and 205 lbs., took home the MVP title for all juniors as well as the MVP as the camp's top linebacker. Harris is also a great student athlete maintaining a 3.8 GPA. GVHS head football coach Yori Ludvigson said, "Braden started at outside linebacker and running back for Gunnison as a sophomore last year. He recorded 105 tackles in just ten games. Harris is being heavily recruited and should be a great Division 1 college player." Congratulations go out to Braden on this accomplishment! Gunnison played well in both games and earned a split against some great competition defeating Lincoln 12-8 but falling to Logandale 8-3. With the pool play games in the books, Saturday's single elimination tournament began with a matchup against Piute. With a strong performance in the field, on the mound and from the plate, Gunnison beat the Thunderbirds 9-4 and advanced to the semi-finals against the same Logandale team that had beaten them the day before. Saturday night's 10 year old championship game featured Gunnison taking on a hot Carbon team that had just defeated North Sevier. In what turned out to be a back and forth battle, Gunnison jumped out to an early 3-0 lead only to see it evaporate into a 9-3 deficit. With their backs up against the wall, Gunnison strapped on their 'big boy pants' and turned the 4th inning into a hit parade scoring nine runs on Cioci49\ c)A go )A (Limited Area) 528-3792 57 South Main • Gunnison 7Aj qezi # to Se, we Specialty Pizza's: thicken Alfredo • Philly Steak 8 Swiss • BR (hicken • (hicken Bacon Ranch Stix of all kinds: Bread Stix • theezitix • Pepperoni Stix • Hawaiian Stix • (innastix • Yummy Stix lunchtime Special: Pizza by the Slice COACH E'S LOTSA FOTSA SPORTS CALENDAR Little League Baseball Monday - Thursday @ the Gunnison Baseball Park PRE-SEASON AIR CONDITIONING SALE! ten hits including two triples with the bases loaded giving them a lead they would never relinquish. Both championship games were going on at the same time right next to each other and it was fun to watch the Gunnison fans turn back and forth like they were watching a tennis match all the while yelling and cheering on the youth that represented our valley so well.
