Show Forest Service Is Inviting Life V In order to fill vacancies in the s ranger force of the forest service, the U. S. civil service commission an-Biounccs an-Biounccs an open competitive examination examin-ation for forest ranger on October 25. In Idaho the examination will be held at Boise, Burley, Challis, Emmett, Ilailey, McCall, Mackay, Montpelier, Pocatello, Salmon, St. Anthony and Weiser, in Nevada at Austin, Elko and Ely, in Utah at Cedar City, Ephraim, Kanab, Logan, Moab, Og-den, Og-den, Provo, Richfield, Salt Lake City, Vernal and Widtsoe, and in Wyo-. Wyo-. ming at Jackson, Kemmerer and Pinedale. Persons desiring to take the examination may secure application applica-tion form 1312 from the civil service commission, Washington, D. C; from the forest supervisor at any of the examination ex-amination places above mentioned, or from the district forester, Ogden. Tito commission urges that applicants appli-cants secure this form immediately. The work of the forest ranger is largely out-doors, in mountainous forested regions, and the forest service serv-ice is particularly anxious to secure men who like mountain work, are willing to endure hardship if necessary, neces-sary, and can take care of themselves and their saddle-horses in remote regions. re-gions. Applicants must be able-bodied, able-bodied, and are required to pass a medical examination, and must be between the ages of 21 and 40 years. Persons entitled to preference because be-cause of military or naval service are i. 'leased from age requirements. Rangers must be capable of performing perform-ing such manual labor as fighting for-- est tires, and building cabins, trails, and telephone lines. They must have at least a common school education, and know the rudiments of compass surveying, timber scaling and estimating, esti-mating, land laws, and the livestock industry. A good fund of common s use and some experience in kindred lines of work such as engineering or lumbering, will materially help applicants. ap-plicants. Applicants who reside in the state i where they take the examination are j given preference in appointment over j non-residents. N'o particular period1 of citizenship is required, but it must ! be bona tide, as shown by the state-' ments in the application forexamina-j tion. Preference is also given by: act of congress to honorably discharged dis-charged soldiers, sailors, and marines, ma-rines, who should attach to their applications ap-plications their original discharges, or a photostat copy or certified copy thereof, or their otlieial record of service which will be returned after inspection by the commission. Appointees received the initial ray of $1,220 per year, and those whose services are satisfactory may be allowed al-lowed after the first month the temporary tem-porary increase of $20 per month granted by congress.
