Manti Democrats Elect Constable While the Republican votes I were piling high and fast throughout through-out the nation for the candidates on the winning, ticket, one man in Manti, and who was on the Democratic Demo-cratic ticket, was walking to victory vic-tory in the face of the mighty onslaught on-slaught of the avalanche of Re- publican votes. This man was r named as precinct constable and largely due to his populnritymnl ! not on account of the vast number ! of Republican votes he succeeded j in landing the coveted job. The j successful candidate in the Ropub- licau stronghold was Neplii Res- j sey, present deputy under (Jeorge Fisher, sheriff. The reason for Res- sey's success was the fact (hat he had no opponent. Had there been, of course, the result would have been different maybe. I. , . I Taking everything that was not "nailed" down, and some things that were thought to be secure, the Republican Re-publican party, in one of the greatest great-est victories known for many years, swept the nation clean last Tuesday and elected Warren G. Harding for president of the United States and Calvin Coolidge as vice-president. In addition to the heads of the ticket the Republican . party elected congressmen con-gressmen and senators from all the strongholds, reaching and including i the border states. The east and west joined in the rush "for a change" and the success was complete from every1 standpoint. The succesesftil party even reached into Texas and it is more than likely that a Republican congressman will be chosen in the Fourteenth district in the Lone Star state. With 275 electoral votes secure se-cure and many final returns yet to come in, there is every reason to believe be-lieve that Harding's victory will be the most successful in the history of the nation. " Utah swung into line with the rush and the Republicans carried everything, every-thing, electing Senator Smoot, Ma-bey, Ma-bey, and the entire state and legislative legisla-tive tickets. The plurality for the head of the Republican ticket and the stato officers Is placed at 10,000. This, however, is likely to be increased in-creased as the belated returns come in. Sanpete county was no exception to the rule and from available figures (the election of the entire county Republican Re-publican ticket by majorities varying vary-ing from 600 to 900 is announced. Judge George Christensen and his .followers are still hoping for success. Judge Christensen, on the - Democratic Demo-cratic ticket, held a strong vote, and with the eastern counties to hear from, and with a close vote in the county, still has a chance. Gunnison fell into line and Harding Hard-ing won out with a vote of the straight tickets counted of 304, while Cox only received 199. The local can- didates held their own and Knighton, running on the Democratic ticket in the city for four-year term commissioner, commis-sioner, received 434, as against 87 votes for Dyreng, Republican. C. M. Madsen, candidate for state representative repre-sentative on (he Republican ticket, was carried to victory. His vote In Gunnison was 3(17.
