Show judge J D jones it is with regret that we record the resignation of J D JONES probate judge of utah county he has filled the position and has held the office since january when he was appointed as a liberal by president CLEVELAND his term of office ex-pired in 1891 and february of that year he was appointed as a by president on february he was appointed as a Republican again by presiiddeenntt to fill a third term has differed with judge jones politically and has of tea what we believed were mistakes we stand ready to admit now however that the gentleman has made a magnificent recoil as probate judge of th s county he has been a mireles worker and daring his terms of office the county under his personal supervision was supplied with a complete set of abstracts af titles to property on the county a grest convenience to the public he bad erected a fire vault ut the county court hause a thing epry much needed and took a particular pride in seeing the grounds about the court house in a fine condition walks and drives were laid off under his supervision and many ornament tal shrubs and trees planted judge JONES hai also taken a great pride in tho public highways and has worked earnestly and energeti-cally for their improvement the first areu bridge in the county was built during his administration end he personally supervised the very fine suspension bridge across P ovo river that has recently been com-pleted there have also been a num ber of new wooden bridges built in the erection of which he ads anier ested it was largely through judge JONESS efforts thai the provo canyon road over which toll was for many yeara collected was purchased by the county aej made free he urged the improvement of that and today double the loads can be hauled over it that hauled formerly his probate work has been prompt-ly systematically and faithfully at-tended to he has let neither politics nor religion influence him sa far as we know in the settlement of estates in hia position as judge ot the county court be has beau equally consider-ate ef tb peoples rights and he will be long remembered for his efforts last year to cut down the salaries of county officers which are eating up the peoples taxes for hia laud-able endeavor rs in this direction the democrats tried to destroy his good record and the county attorney went before iha grand jury on eleven different counts and failed in every one it was ahna proven that judge joneak record has been a clean one |
