Show Citizenship Meeting Set May 1 1 CLASSES PLANNED TO AIR TRAINING NEEDS Recommendations To Be Made At Each Of Sectional Meets More than 100 Preston and Franklin County citizens will meet at the Preston High School Sundny, May 11, from 2-00 to 6:00 p. m. in a conference confer-ence on education for Amiri-csn Amiri-csn Citizenship. A. W. H.irt will address the group on "What We Mean by American Citizenship." Dr. A. R. Cutlor will then speak on, "Need of Training for American Citizen-snip," Citizen-snip," according to a statement from Supt. R. F. Campbell. In each of! of six sectional meetings meet-ings an attempt will be made to see what is being done in teaching teach-ing American citizens-hip, and ways of improving present procedures will be discussed. These sections will be under ihe leadership" of Ernest Eberhard, Jr., Homer Williams, Wil-liams, W. F. Smith, W. H. Simmons, Sim-mons, Dr. O. R. Cutler, and R. R Rowel! Recommendations from each group wili be made in the concluding general meeting of the conference. This conference is a follow-up follow-up of a similar regional meeting meet-ing held in Salt Lake City re-recently re-recently under the sponsorship of the Education.il Policies Crumis'on of National Education Edu-cation association. That commission com-mission has studied first hand the citizenship education practices prac-tices in 90 representative schools of America. Much teat was commendable was found, but many places for improvements improve-ments were also revealed. The local conference is semg sponsored by Preston and Franklin Frank-lin County schools and a committee commit-tee of representative citizens. A definite attempt will be made to set recommendations which will Improve practices in th local schools. |
