With a little more than 4 minutes left in the game, the Rebels put in an amazing 21 straight one pointers that helped them keep their lead. The overall record form the charity line was 38 of 50, an amazing 76. Two big standouts for this game would have to be Quincy Lewis and Cliff Reed. Lewis kept the ball moving and under control down the stretch and also turned in 7 game. Sean Petersen, the teams only sophomore, gave the Rebels an early lead, which they held throughout the entire game by putting in the first 4 points of the game. A few minutes later, Dixie scored 6 unanswered points giving them a 14-- 6 lead. ST GEORGE, UT McArthur Jewelers DIAMOND SPECIALISTS Only 24 hours after stomping on number one ranked CSI, the Rebels found it hard on top of the Treasure Valley Chukars, a team which came to St.George with a 9 record for the season. Ten minutes into the second half, the Rebels held a 6 lead over the Chukars, but in the next five minutes the Dixie men shot out on a 22-- 2 scoring streak with a burst on the court. This rally by the Rebels closed up the game and made it almost impossible for TVCC to come 59-5- back. While the Rebels were a little tired and worn out after the win over CSI, the Chukars came to Dixie with a different attitude. TVCC came to try and regain their confidence after being blownout by Snow the night before. At the start of the game and throughout the first 30 minutes, it seemed that Treasure Valley might even have a chance to win. The main purpose for the sudden burst of points by the Rebels was credited to their full court press, which caused many turnovers by the Chukars. Dixie's defense also caused a lot of trouble to Treasure Valley, forcing action at both ends of the court. While it didn't show a big difference in the scores, it did wear down the Chukars to the point where they made three back court turnovers in a row, which helped add spark to the 89-6- 8 Rebels hot streak. Dixie put in 15 unanswered points and then allowed the Chukars to make two of their own. The Rebels then proceeded to reel off an additional seven straight points to move into the lead with an score. 81-5- 8 Even though many players helped make this run possible, the one who played the biggest role had to be Travis Warner. He turned in an amazing 5 points, 3 steals, 4 assists, and 2 dish-off- s leading to a pair of 3 point shots. During their momentum, Quincy Lewis added another steal of his 5 as well as a own to keep it going. Cordon Robbins then Continued on Page 12 |
