Coming up Pauite slides planned A slide presentation documenting the history of the Southern Paiute Indians will be shown Jan. 29 at SUSC. The Southern Paiute Historical Experience: A New Look, will start at 2 p.m. in Library 214. Materials for the program have been largely drawn from the William R. Palmer Collection, from the early 1900s, housed in SUSC Special Collections. The presentation documents the history of the Southern Paiutes from the time of contact, including glimpses of the Paiute people during the difficult transition period in the first half of the 20th century, according to Special Collections Director Mary Jane Cedar Face. A display of Southern Paiute historical photographs will also be exhibited along with the interpretive slide presentation. Also refreshments will be served. This program is part of an ongoing library lecture series at SUSC. TV course slated A telecourse available for college credit at SUSC starts Jan. 25, over KUED-7- . It will be an armchair exploration of the geologic history of the planet Earth. Richard R. Kennedy, a SUSC geologist, is the faculty sponsor for the telecourse. Individuals enrolled in the class turn test materials and other required assignments in to him, and he is available to class members for consultation. The Earth Explored or Geology 101 ' is one of the most popular telecourses broadcast over the extensive KUED viewing area. A series of 14 television programs make up the core of the telecourse. Copies of the television programs are available at the SUSC Media Center while the telecourse is in session. The televised class, available for three transferable credits, will be shown twice weekly Saturdays at 2 p.m. then again Mondays at'5 p.m. It will continue through the week of April 26. Registration can be completed at the registrars office in the SUSC Administration Building. |
