Show LOCAL POST OFFICE REACHES ALL-TIME HIGH IN RECEIPTS Postal receipts for the Preston office, ordinarily taken as a fair indication of the area's business volume, reached an all-time high during 1940, Postmaster Halo Hart indicated this week. Gross receipts for the year totaled $195,774.34. This is an increase of 118 per cent over the figures for 1930 and was substantially above that of last year. Gross receipts in 1930 were $89,840.78. Of the gross receipts, $60,221.02 was disbursed in Preston, and the balance was deposited with the Federal Reserve Bank through the First Security Bank. Money order receipts jumped from $77,221.05 in 1930 to $158,125.91, an increase of 105 per cent during the decade, the report shows. Miscellaneous accounts and savings sav-ings and bond sales showed the largest increase from $491.65 to $20,231.71. Postal receipts which includes in-cludes stamps, parcel post, etc. showed a 44 per cent increase over 1930, climbing from $12,12S.0S to $17,416.72. Along with the increased revenue rev-enue from the Preston office, the post office staff has .also handled an increased volume of incoming mail, Postmaster Hart stated. |
