Show LABOR PROGRAM TO ! OFFER EMPLOYMENT Idaho will have a major part in the regional Defense Labor Supply' program through its State Employment Employ-ment Service, it was announced here today by Mr. Boyle, the Manager. Mana-ger. Work or the Idaho State Employment Employ-ment Service, will he carefully synchronized with the Regional Labor Supply headquarters in Denver, Mr. Boyle declared. First consideration will be given to the registration and placement of workers who have lost their jobs if as a result of shortages in raw materials. ' 'To Insure a sufficient supply on essential materials for defense industries, in-dustries, it has been necessary to reduce the consumption of such maerials in non-defense manufacture," manufac-ture," Mr. Boyle explained "Therefor, "There-for, the Government has had to limit the number of units produced and to ration certain raw materials which wall cause curtailment of production, and in some cases, tht closing' of industrial plants. "Management and labor is coordinating co-ordinating its efforts to insure the maximum efficiency of industrial plants and labor facilities for the Defense program in Idaho and the Rocky Mountain area. This includes includ-es he registration of skilled and semi-skilied workers in trie iu--al State employment service offices, and establishment or expansion of necessary training courses to open up new opportunities for reemployment reemploy-ment of those workers who have been displayed as a result of mete-rial mete-rial shortages." One of the principal sources of information on possible pending and prospective labor displaces as a result of shortages and priorities A of material will be from the Idaho State Employment Service offices, it was explained. After this information in-formation has been utilized by the Regional Labor Supply Committee, it win be furnished to the priorities branch of the Labor Division, ana forwarded to the. Defense Contract Service of the Office. of Production Management to guide it in the placing plac-ing of defense contracts and its re. commendations for the subcontracting subcon-tracting and farming-out of defense orders. "Through local cooperation of management and labor, the opera tion will be conducted on community com-munity and regional levels as much as possible," Mr. Boyle declared. "This will be handled by promoting the registration of workers in local State Employment Service offices prior to their lay-offs, and the es-tablihmentof es-tablihmentof the necessary training train-ing courses to open up new opportunities op-portunities for re-employment. "While labor will not be displac-ed displac-ed in as great numbers in the Rockies as it was in the East, industries in-dustries using such materials as steel, silk and aluminum, neverthe. less, all such developments will be watched and plans made in ad vance because such lay-offs due to production cuts are vital to the life and well-being of every com munity. "The ultimate objective of this cooperative action between the Idaho Ida-ho State Employment Service and the Regional Labor Supply Committee Com-mittee is to get collective action .for Uhe most effective recruiting, training, and placement of supply workers of the skill, and at the timet andplace required for best operation of the defense industries, in conformity with the policies of the Office of Production Manage j ment," Mr. Boyle explained. |
