Boyer was tendered a surprise party at his home last Monday night by his sisters Mrs. L. M. Johnson and Mrs. M. C. Mendenhall, in honor of his 55th birthday. Friends and relatives to the number of thirty were present, aud the time was pleasantly spent with song, music and speaches. A bounteous repast was served. I. A. Randall came down from Salt Lake Saturday evening. He has been In the hospital for several months with a bad knee, which was injured In a railroad accident. Mr. Randall had a narrow escape from loosing his leg. In fact, he was taken into the operating room at one time to have the amputation preformed, but the doctor decided to wait a day longer, when.a change for the better took place, and the limb was saved. Mr. Randall is now getting along nicely and can walk around town with the aid of a crutch. He expects to go back on the road to work in the course of a week or two. Last week Hardy Averitt finished the construction of a boat, which now floats on the blue waters of Utah lake. Last Saturday night a sound of revelry could be heard coming from, the tent of the Knights of the Maccabees of this city. The brethren and a few guests assembled to bid farewell to Mrs. Lund, the wife of Sir Knight E. I. Lund, who was soon to depart fur her new home in Iowa. A literary program was rendered, a half-hour spent in dancing, and the banquet prepared. A little incident not down on the program transpired at this point. A gasoline stove was being used to prepare coffee, and a little unskillful manipulation soou caused a blaze in the cook's quarters. Part of the assembly at once proceeded proceed-ed to create a panic by rushing down staiis. part resolved itseif into afire brigade and the remainoer became loo terrified to decide what to do. The panic cleared the hall and the fire department poured aboilerfulof hot coffee on the blaze. Then all hands "mopped'' and the fire was extinguished. ex-tinguished. Head Cook S. M. Davis and his helpers then went down to John Martin's and made more coffee. The entertainment was then proceeded proceed-ed with, just as if tires and burns were the regular Maccabee order of things.
