Show "HOLD YOUR HOSSES." From the beginning of tho recent A. U.-Unlvcrslty light, and especially since the appointment of tho new A. 0. board, Tiik Hiu-uiiliuan has urged conservative thought and expression in regard to the situation. It Is a pleasure to note that tho Deserct News and Inter-Mountain Republican echo that sentiment. These papers argue that tho changes at the college will work to the good of that Institution; that the llghtagalnst tho school, sure to result In coir ollda-lion ollda-lion if continued, will now cease; that the school will be developed, but In a little different line from that laid down by President Kerr and tho old board; that with u little cooperation hero the student body will increase and the school will piosper under the new regime. That sounds good and Is In line with what Tiik IIki'uiilican has ever believed, be-lieved, though it has not heretofore expressed Itself soclearly. We bellevo that the new boatd and tho new management man-agement assures a cessation of the strenuous light against the college, and that It Is so allied politically, religiously re-ligiously and socially that It can and will accomplish for tho school what the present forces at the college could not accomplish with the odds against them. We doubt whether tho college will ever have quite the tono It has had In the past, but wo believe that It may eventually prove even moro elTec-llvo elTec-llvo In certain directions, and at this time Is cnteilng Into an era of the peace that Is necessary to the success of any state institution not having attained its growth. Tin: Uki-uiilican Is not less a friend to tho Agricultural College; it has not lost one jot or tittle of its admiration for President Kerr as a man among real men, an organizer and executive greater than any In this state, a clean, clear-cut, hlgh-pilnclpled gentleman of unquestioned moral calibre and genuine genu-ine worth; It also remembers keenly tho unpleasantness of two years ago, and has not forgotten the fact that thero Is In existence certain evidence of a bombshell nature; and because of all this we would again urgo conservatism and co-operation rather than antagonism. antagon-ism. Get in line and push; give the new board a chance at least until aggrieved parties deem It advisable to stir up a rumpus However, Tiik IIki-uhmcan points to tho fact that President W. J. Kerr, the victim of political, icllglous and personal treachery, Is keeping decidedly decided-ly mum, also that VY. W. Hlter resigned re-signed from the board. These two facts with other Indications have a significance, and until the falsity of that significance Is manifest, Tiik Rk-1'uulican Rk-1'uulican believes that anything but conservatism must necessarily work to the disadvantage not only of the col-lego col-lego but of President Kerr himself Ulitll thero Is further development, let's take it easy it has been strenuous strenu-ous a good while. Wo don't need to forget, but Just keep fiom sweating about It. |
