An official telegram received at Shanghai from the governor of Shan Tung leaves uo doubt that all for" eigners in Pekin have been annihilated, after making a most desperate fight. It is said that maddened with hunger, after having been without food for many d:ys, the members of the legation lega-tion and the guards made a sortie on the night of June 3oth and killed 200 Chinese in an unexpected attack. General Gen-eral Tung Full Siang, enraged over the loss of so many men, brought up heavy guns, and I'rince Tuan gave the order that every foreigner must be destro"ed. His vonls were: '"Destroy every foreign for-eign vestige and make China a sealed book to all western powers." I'rince Tuan had previously discovered discov-ered that Prince Ching was supplying the foreigners with ammunition. He therefore ordered General Tung Full Siang to bear on Prince Ching'stroops, and it is reported that Ching was killed or severely wounded. In the final attempt to cut their way through, the legationers formed a square, the women and children in the ' 'Xt., - -) P - V EMPEROR OF CHINA. center. When the Boxers realized that they were being attacked they became like wild beasts and shot each other j with revolvers. Heavy guns bom-' bom-' barded all night, until the buildings were demolished and in flames, j Many foreigners were roasted in the flames. The Boxers rushed upon them and hacked and stabbed both dead and wounded, cutting off their heads and uarryiug them throug'h the streets on their rilles. They then attacked the native christian quarters, massacred all who refused to join them, outraged the women and brained the children. Hundreds of mission huildings were burned. The Loudon Times publishes a letter from its Pekin correspondent, dated June 10, which cout.tiiis an assertion, made on seemingly good authority, that the Empress Dowager has deeded de-eded that every foreigner was to be massacred that night. It also publishes pub-lishes the last message from its cor- ? ' f LI HUNG CHANG. respondent, dated Juue 14, when the Boxers had made two attempts to rush the foreign quarters. Canton dispatches say that Li Hung Chang had been planning to start for the north on July IS. but lie is much j debilitated. He ordered the leader of the "Black Flag" to march with 10,000 men overland to Pekin against the Boxers. It is reported from Shanghai that the allied ileets are concentrating oil' 5han Ilai Kwan and have been ordered to shell anil capture the forts.
