Morris, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Babcock of Helper, are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Shelly Lorraine, to Mack C. Morris, Jr. on Saturday, June 7. The couple plan to exchange vows in the Price Methodist Church. Miss Babcock graduated as valedictorian from Carbon High School in 1979, from CEU in 1981 and earned a bachelors degree in organizational communications from the University of Utah in 1983. She is executive assistant to the president of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau. Mr. Morris, of Midland, Texas, attended Oklahoma State University where he studied pertroleum engineering. He is with the Amoco Production Co. The rehearsal dinner is planned at the Radisson Inn and a wedding reception is planned at the Price Elks Lodge. Traci Van Wagoner Kim C. Nelson Mr. and Mrs. Willard L. Van Wagoner are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter, Traci, to Kim C. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Nelson on Saturday, June 7. Golden Anniversary 50th anniversary To be published soon Local woman writes book - An East EAST CARBON Carbon author who enjoys writing, raising flowers and .telling stories to children in about equal measure is looking forward to the publication of her first book in about two or three months. Vera Steele said the idea for Princess Zettie and the Teeny a childrens Weeny People, book, came to her as she read an article in Readers Digest. The factual article in Readers Digest about the finding of little tunnels and small skeletons in Egypt sparked her creativity and she thought about the lives of those people and the possibility of a in the center of the Shangri-L- a earth. The people of her imaginary kingdom are not exactly fairies but probably similar to them. While her book is fiction, it borders on truth, she said. The first time she submitted the manuscript, the publisher said it was not long enough for a book. She wrote additional material and resubmitted it, she said. A native of Oklahoma where 19 she grew up and attended school, Steele, her husband and four children left the dust bowl during the Depression years and moved to Wyoming. After two years in Wyoming the family came to East Carbon where they have remained for 45 years. The family was expanded to include a fifth child, a son they adopted after moving to East Carbon. The grandchildren who once came to hear her stories have grown up and have children of Her audience for stories these days is comprised of greatgrandchildren and while she has not added up the number lately, she estimates there are about 20. Like all expectant authors, she hopes the book will be a success. Nevertheless she has an idea for a second book that she thinks has possibilities. That idea for a new book came from adventures experienced by her son, who as a boy built a cabin on a cliff. She said that she has always read a lot, especially adventure stories.
