Show SUPT. J. M. MILLS IN i T1LK TO IDE PARENTS Superintendent John M. Mills of the city schools met a number of parents at 3 p m. yeBterday by appointment, at the Five Points school. The purpose pur-pose of the meeting was to discuss the half-day 6chool plan. In a preface to his part of the discussion, dis-cussion, Mr. Mills said that he was anxious for the people to get a right understanding and that others had understood but, being opposed to the plan for personal reasons, had claimed to misunderstand Continuing, he said that no one wished to injure the American school system, because it was the best in the world, and that Ogden is In the fore rank of school progress There is, however, something some-thing wrong in both the school and the home The speaker said that, if he had to choose between no work or no school for his own children, he would choose no school "It is not desirable,' he said further, "that a boy shmil 1 go to school all day and be frnolous, nor should he have to work aii the time, but his time should be divided between the two, with proper play time allowed " In closing his prefa tory remarks, the superintendent sain that the plan was going to be inaugurated inau-gurated and that he was ready to stand or fall on the proposition. He then went into a detailed review of the plan. Following Mr Mills' talk, the discussion dis-cussion was thrown open and a few questions were asked and opinion-; both pro and con were expressed. i oo |
