Show THE PICKETING LAW. The leading business organizations of tho state have petitioned Governor Bamberger to recommend to the special session of the legislature that the picketing pick-eting law now upon the statute books bo repealed. The Salt Lake Commercial Commer-cial club, the Weber club of Ogdeu, tho Utah Manufacturers' association and the Rotary clubs of both Salt Lake and Ogden are among the petitioners. Sentiment Sen-timent against picketing has crystallized crystal-lized sinco the Labor day disturbance on Second South street, when an aged retired military officer was maltreated by a mob in broad daylight for entering enter-ing a restaurant which had been declared de-clared unfair and before which pickets were pacing to and fro to interfere with tho business of the proprietors. In practice Ithere is no such thing as peaceful picketing. Sooner or later disturbances start and bloody riots frequently fre-quently develop. The chief of police declares that tho present law permitting permit-ting "peaceful picketing" hampers him in tho performance of his duty and he, too, favors its repeal. No doubt Governor Gov-ernor Bamberger will call the attention of tho legislature to this highly important import-ant matter and it should be given immediate im-mediate attention. |
