Show U. P cPCuL-mi SPECIAL TO BE HERE JUNE 18 Demonstrations of Culling, Grading and Packing to Be Made on Special. Poultry producers in Utah county are anticipating a rare treat when the special poultry train of the Union Pacific visits three communities communi-ties of the county next week. The train will be in' Provo Wednesday, June 18, from 6:30 in the evening until 9 :30. Before coming to Provo the spciial -riV --- '.merican Forir.-Payson Forir.-Payson will be visited' i-'riuay, June 20. The poultry special, which is operated op-erated by the Union Pacific System in co-operation with the extension department of the Utah Agricultural College, will have on exhibition models of a number of poultry houses, each one of which will be discussed. Demonstrations will be made in culling, by using trap nested nest-ed birds with known records. Demonstrations Dem-onstrations will also be made in egg grading, caponizing, feeding, breeding breed-ing and brooding., Among the capons to be exhibited will be White Leghorn, Black Minorca, White Plymouth Rock and Buff Arpington. Problems of interest to the poultry poul-try producers of the state will be discussed by capable men connected i with the special train, as well as by several of the state officials. Among those scheduled to make addresses ad-dresses are Governor Charles R. Mabey, Dr. B. G. Peterson, president of the Utah 'Agricultural College: A. A. Hinckley, commissioner of agriculture of Utah ; Byron Alder and H. W. Warner, poultry specialists special-ists oft be U. A. C..; E. H. Hite, commercial agent, American Railway Rail-way Express company ; J. A. Reeves, general freight agent, O. S. L. ; W. F. Lincoln, general freight agent, L. A. & S. L. ; R. A. Smith, supervisor super-visor of agriculture, U. P. System. County Agent J. P. Welch is co-operating with the movement and is encouraging the farmers and poul-1 try men of the county to attend the exhibits and to hear the addresses to be made. "Utah county farmprs are rapidly I realizing that poultry paves ' the path to prosperity," said Mr. Welch. "They are appreciative of the efforts ef-forts that Is being shown by the Union Pacific System and the Utah Agricultural college in sending out the poultry special. "The purpose of the train is to interest the people of Utah in poultry poul-try raising as a stabilizing factor in the agriculture of the state, as well as to impress upon them the necessity neces-sity for improving th equality of their flocks and for increasing efficiency ef-ficiency in production, parcking, shipping and marketing." |
