E Vinegar will be the speaker for the afternoon according to Alice Hatch Haacke captain of the camp Patriarch Hogan is the son of Eric G. G M. M Hogan original owner of the cabin Eric G. G M. M Hogan was the first settler in South Bountiful He and his wife 1 and nd five fife fi e children emigrated from Norway in 1837 They settled in Illinois and later came caine to Salt lake take September 22 1848 The fol- fol following following lowing owing day he rode horseback to explore the valley to the north About nine miles out he found a aring spring ring of fresh water and gaining the ie permission of President Brig- Brig Brigham Brigham ham lam Young he took his family to todie die ic new site and built there the first log cabin in the locality In 1857 he lie erected another log cabin abin a house with one room downstairs and one up with a slab roof and an adobe chimney It is this lis cabin which grew to be a so- so social social cial ial center for the community and md ands andis is s to be honored In 1934 Hyrum Hogan logan son of the he early carly pioneer presented the theold theold old Id cabin to the Eutaw Camp to toe tob be b e preserved as a relic hall and andas ands as s a memorial to the sturdy faith- faith faithful faithful ful til pioneers of the community The he cabin was moved log by log logo to o where it now nestles humbly among mong the trees |
