The traditional day of the lasL Thurs-day Thurs-day in the month was changed last year by President Franklin D. Roosevelt by proclamation for the purpose of allowing merchants to have more time to advertise Christmas Christ-mas merchandise. However, the holiday date is really left up to the state so last year about half of the states celebrated on the -last Thursday of the ni:inh while the other half celebrated on the third Thursday of the month. Idaho last year chose the traditional tradi-tional day while Utah followed the President's proclamation. This year both states will observe the November No-vember 21 date which will erase much conflict for people in this pari) of the state. In announcing that stores would-be would-be closed all day on November 21 the Chamber of Commerce also announced an-nounced that stores would remain open on Thanksgiving eve, Wednesday, Wed-nesday, November 20, until 8 p. in. |
