One is alout the camel and one is about t'.u elephant. We are going to have a frieze of each animal that we study. It is fun. Vernon : Hughes. We are making new curtains. They are going to be yellow with I black animals on them. We have one up on our window. It has two big elephants and two little ones on it. Florence Reynolds. The elephant is very strong. It is used in India and Africa. The man that guides him is called a mahout. Elephants are used to carry mahogany logs. Its skin is very tough. A lot of things are made from the ivory of the elephants ele-phants tusk. The king rides in a howdah on the elephants back. Its ears are big but he cannot hear very well. He is the biggest animal ani-mal in the world. It grows from nine to fL'teeen feet high. Lenora Cowen. A man from Salt Lake brought a picture show machine down and showed it to us. It showed a girl ; Retting ready for bed. She was very healthy. It showed a lot of other things too. I liked it very much. Dean Baker. FOURTH GRADE (Continued Story of Old Milford) The first school house was made of wood. It stands in the back of Mrs. Williams home. She now uses it for a garage. Mrs. Latey was the first teacher. She had about seven scholars. They had slates to write on. They had a fire place for a stove. Some of the early freighters were Mr. Hickman and Mr. Barret. Freighting was a dangerous thing but it was a good occupation. Jay Johansen. We have a new calendar for April. The teacher made it. She has a big basket. On the side of the basket is our calendar, then on the south and north ends there are two rabbits. In the top of the basket bas-ket are colored eggs and a yellow duck. By another duck is a smaller rabbit. At the bottom of the basket bas-ket i the name of the month. We have two birthdays this month. They are both boys, their names are Deane English and Roy White. Deans was on the 4th and Roy's is on the 12th or Easter. Af ton English. We have learned a new way to learn spelling. We do it this way. j Pronounce the word and spell it silently. Get a clear picture of the j word and write it. Compare it with the word on our word list and if it is correct write twice more. If it is not correct spell silently again, write word, compare and if correct this time write five times. Maxine Carter. April 7, a man from -Salt Lake came up to the high school with a picture machine. He invited the grade school to watch the pictures. There were three films, one about the teeth, one about how peas grow j and the other how sound waves travel. They were very interesting. interest-ing. Albin Holm. ' W are playing baseball. We have four teams. There are nine people on each team. The captains are Merl, Jay, Doris and Deane. Bill Bonner. Sundy is Easter , Sunday, the day Jesus came from the tomb. This is the story about Easter. One day a little boy .was playing in front of a man's place. The man was very sick and poor. His wife had to take care of him. He could not get well because he had no money for a doctor or medicine. The little boy felt very sorry for the poor old man. He planted some j.flowes in front of the house. When Easter came the flowers came up i and hloompd. This Hnv Vi man was a little better so he could look out the window. When he saw the flowers he said, "Who planted those flowers." The old woman was surprised too and said, "I do not know." Soon the old man got better and j was able to work. The little boy had helped make the man better. Daniel Blair Coon. FIFTH GRADE In the back of the fifth grade room there is a plant. The teacher made a little stand for it. At the first of the year it was just a small one but now it is vey large and will soon be touching the floor. I hope your plants are as big and petty as the one in the back of the fifth grade' room. Irene Atkin. In our Weekly Readers we read about a tunnel that is being built under the Hudson river. It is more than half through and they have been working one year and have still two years more until it is finished. It will be twenty feet below be-low the river bed. The machines they use weigh 400 tons each. Just think how far those "Sandhogs," as the men are called have to dig. They started at New Jersey and it will end at New York. Let us all i say "Good Luck" to all those .workmen and we will be sure they i will succeed. Shirley Young. The high school has planted ' trees all over town. They are about three feet high. Some will get broken or not grow. But some will make fine trees. Lets all help to i keep them growing. Eddie Yep- ' sen. SIXTH GRADE Today we started a new topic in history. This topic is about the : Mohammedan religion. A young ! prophet named Mohammed started 1 it. This prophet was the same to the Mohammedan as Jesus was to the Christians.- Doug Moore. Ohr Gang Comery actors went through on the train Thursday. , This gang was going to Salt Lake , to put on a play. Two Milford i boys gave Spanky the high sign. One of them got the right high sign, the other one got a bunny one. I think Spanky is the leader. Leland Rogers. We are taking a little paper called "My Weekly Reader." A ; few weeks ago Jack Goodwin and i Vern Christensen sent to the same company for a Braille reader which the blind use. They brought it to school and let us all see it. |
