There hu been rioting among the American and Italian mlnera employed in the Hidden Treasure and Ute and Ulay mlnea at Hen sen, Col., and the cause of it all Is Kitty Lawa pretty ' boarding-hous- e rence, waitress. After working In Denver all last summer Miss Kitty decided, that she would like to spend the winter in some of the mountain towna. She visited the different employment offices, where she left her address, saying that ahe wanted a place outside of the city. Mrs. E. Mitchell got an order from Lake City for a waitress to work In a boarding-hous- e at that place. 8he sent for Kitty Lawrence, who decided to accept. Thla was about the middle of last October, and the next day Kitty Lawrence waa on her way to the mining camp. When she went to work In the boarding-hous- e she waa pleasant to all, as usual. Among the boarders were several Italians, and the new girl treated all alike. The Italians were not accustomed to politeness from an American girl and they fell In love with her. Kitty Lawrence did not know that she had won the hearts of the Italians, and when they bowed and stuttered to her, she thought it waa out of respect to her, because she had treated them courteously. The bowing and stuttering Increased as time went on, and at last one of the Italians, who was bolder than the others, went to the waitress and vowed that he could not live nnless she would consent to become his wife. The offer of the Italian waa heartily rejected, and Kitty Lawrence gave It out that ahe waa going to look for another place to .work. The rejected Italian told his countrymen that the waitress 'had rejected him. on account of his nationality. This enraged all of them, ao they decided that their honor must be vindicated and that ahe should pay the penalty with her life, A few nights ago these Italians .placed some dynamite on the window islll of Kitty Lawrence's bedroom. The fuse and cap were attached and the would-b- e murderers stood off at a distance to watch their fiendish work. The explosion came and the side of the bedroom was torn out, but Kitty Lawrence. white in face and garb, stood jpb.1 th wreckage uninjured. r' ttvort M the attempted tfcrOWgh-Ah- at - assass-HnatlBg'VSM- When the will of Henry M.
