Letters to the Editor Reader Says Thanks Dear OGDEN VALLEY NEWS, Thank you for providing us with the news in our Valley. I feel really grateful for this news, and enjoy the stories. I think there’s a lot of effort put into the research. I also think the information I have read has helped me, and I look forward to reading it in the future. Thank you for your time and consideration. David Rona, Liberty “People First Language” Article is Liberal Double Talk Beam me up Scotty before I become as emotional and cognitive disabled as Ms. Snow. This liberal double talk is taking political correctness to its ultimate absurdity. Now how would Ms. Snow like me to write my last comments . . . Yes, I have it! It was pure, unadulterated bovine excrement. Rosalie Adams, Huntsville Note: This “Letter to the Editor” was written in response to an article in the February 1, 2002 issue of the “OGDEN VALLEY NEWS” entitled, “People First Language.” Parents Beware! I have never written a letter to the editor, but an incident that took place on March 1 caused me to want to make parents and citizens of our Valley aware of what is happening at Eden Video. I took my 11- and 13-year-old daughters into Eden Video to rent a family movie. Imagine my shock when I turned the aisle corner and saw, on the TV screen in front of me, a very explicit scene of a naked man and women. I was horrified that this was showing in full view of customers, and that I and my two young daughters were in the store where this was taking place! Inspirational Thought Time invested in improving ourselves cuts down on time wasted in disapproving of others. -Anonymous I feel the community needs to be made aware that your children can easily be exposed to inappropriate videos by frequenting Eden Video. When I talked to Mr. Christiansen, the owner, about the video he was showing, his statement was that he needed to preview the movies for his patrons. It seems he has enough concern for his patrons to be able to tell them what kind of content is on a video, but not enough concern for our community to not be showing this kind of movie where customers of all ages and tastes—anyone walking into his establishment—can view it. Mr. Christiansen could do a couple of things that would help safeguard our community. He could do the obvious—simply not show anything that would be inappropriate for the families who come into his store, or put a sign on his door notifying patrons that he shows explicit videos during store hours. So, be aware of what is out there as you send your child in to Eden Video to pick up a movie! Debbie Bostwick, Liberty Experts and Wackos to Swap Nicknames Recent House of Representatives committee discussion of HB 158 covered this common sense bill, mislabeled by media as anti-fluoride, rather than anti-arsenic. Translated, the bill merely promised “Let’s not put EXTRA poison in the water,” and required that no toxic, carcinogenic chemicals or heavy metals can ride along with fluoride, and that materials are properly approved for health claims. Is that so much to ask? Apparently. I was shocked to hear several Representatives and health officials attempt to rationalize any amount of these toxins forcibly added to the drinking water, thereby our bodies and ecosystem, permanently. I found myself stunned to hear healthcare professionals who have taken the Hippocratic Oath squirming around this fact: Unbeknownst to most Legislators and voters, we’re slated for cheap, toxic grades of fluoride material never intended for human consumption. If the public was going to suddenly insist upon minimal safety, well that was just raising the bar too high. Does anyone remember, “First do no harm....” That doesn’t mean a little bit of unpublicized harm. That doesn’t mean poisons increasing cancer rates. That means NO harm. FDA’s statutory jurisdiction and responsibility is for approval of fluoride drug claims made prior to use, and is not related to water purifying procedures. HB 158 also verifies that no more bait and switch will be tolerated. While Utah is struggling to come into compliance with safety standards for toxins in our water, we won’t add even more. We know that Maximum Contaminant Levels of Riverdale Road Restrictions WEBER COUNTY - The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises motorists that Riverdale Road will be limited to one lane in each direction over the I-15 bridge from 1900 W. in Roy to 1500 W. in Riverdale.
