Show HYRUM. E. R. Joslyn of New York and Mr. Latham, and brother came down from the left-hand fork of Blacksmith Fork Canyon on Monday afternoon, and stayed all night with Bishop O. N. Liljenquist. In a conversation with these gentlemen I learned that they had been perfecting the survey through the most difficult portion of the mountains preparatory to commencing work on the Utah and Wyoming R. R. This road will be built from Corrinne via Mendon and across the valley by Mr. Hulse's place in Millville field, up the narrow valley to the mouth of Blacksmith's Fork, then up the Canyon to the coal fields. Work on the bridges will commence at an early day, and our grangers will have the preference in getting labor during the fall and winter. These gentlemen think our people preferable to the usual class of railroad hands that are imported and that they do better work and are more reliable. Sister Molen and Sister Barber of the presidency of the Primary Association of this Stake, visited Hyrum and held meeting with the children (and many sisters) in the Public Hall on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The exercises of the children were very satisfactory. The ladies gave the little folks much valuable instruction and complimented Sister Lucy Wilson on the efficiency of the Association under her charge. |
