Show ELK CHASE IS GIVEN UP WHEN I HELP FAILS The attempt to bring more than 2(K) elk from the base of Mr. Xebo to the range of mountains east of Springville and Provo, which was started March 2, was abandoned last Friday after twelve men from Springville and seven men of the U. S. forest service, on horseback, bad ridden furiously for five consecutive con-secutive days. . . The chase was abandoned at Santaouin' when the drove of more than 2(10 elk that had been driven j in a body from their mountain quar-I quar-I i tors through Xenhi and past Mona', j found the mouth of the canyon at l Santatjuin unguarded and made j their escape. I , .It was assured before the chase was begun that Provo, Spanish I Fork, Payson and the surrounding j territories would furnish men to l help guard the mouths of the can-l can-l yons between Xephi and Spring-l Spring-l ville, but outside of the Springville, j Mapleton and forest service men l there was not a man who appeared j on the job. "When it was learned that none J of the canyons were being guarded I by promised help from Provo and J the other towns it was decided that I further effort would be useless, hence the chase was abandoned. These were lassoed at Mona B the third day of the drive and 5 transported In a Dodge truck.
