Show UNIQUE OUTING AT UTAH LAKE AUGUST SIXTH President Benjamin Goddard of Bureau of Information to Preside. The Utah lake shore at Geneva will be transformed into a genuine Pacific island beach on Wednesday, August C, when the Pacific Islanders Isl-anders association of Utah will hold .its annual outing there. The association asso-ciation consists of rersons who have come from any of the Pacific islands, Hawaii. Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, or New Zealand, as well as missionaries of the Latter-day Saint church who have labored on those islands. Hundreds of people from all over the state will he in attendance at the outing. The performers at the program will be attired in the native na-tive costumes. It is the intention of the program committee to have the outing just as nearly as if it was given on the beach of any one of the many islands of the Pacific. Besides those who are affiliated with the organization it is expected that many will come and participate in the outing just to hear the remarkable re-markable program which has been arranged for the occasion. The program will begin at 10 o'clock and will be under the direction direc-tion of Benjamin Goddard, president presi-dent of the association and also head of the bureau of information on the Temple block in Salt Lake City. From 10 o'clock until 11:30 the following program will be given : Address of welcome, President Benjamin Goddard ; Hawaiian song, Johnson brothers; Hawaiian -Address, E. Wesley Smith, former president of the Hawaiian mission mis-sion ; Tnhitian song, under the direction di-rection of T. L. Woodbury ; Tahitian address, H. J. Sheffield; Samoan song, under the direction of E. Frank Soderberg; Samoan address, J. Q. Adams, recently returned president pres-ident of the Samoan mission ; New Zealand song, under the direction of Moroni C. Woods; New Zealand address, ad-dress, James N. Lambert, former president of the New Zealand mission mis-sion ; Tonga song, under the direction direc-tion of Alva J. Butler; Tonga address, ad-dress, Alva J. Butler. Following the program those present pres-ent will register and renew old acquaintanceships. ac-quaintanceships. Lunch will be served during the noon hour. A social hour and reunion will be held from 1 o'clock until 2, follow-! ed by two hours of sports nnd .games. Boating and bathing will be enjoyed en-joyed from 4 o'clock until 5:30, after, which an hour will be taken for lunch. The real feature of the outing will be the native program on the sandy beach in which many of the natives as well as Americans will participate. Many people from the surrounding communities of Utah county will be drawn to Geneva for this program. Hawaiian girls, under the direction direc-tion of D. Byron Jones, will sing Hawaiian songs. Venice Jepperson and company will stage a hula hula dance accompanied by the Hawaiian Glee club. Native New Zealand features will be given under the direction of R. K. Hardy and Moroni C. Woods. : Tahitian features will be under the direction of T. L. Woodbury and H. J. Sheffield. E. Frank Soderberg and George E. Browning will direct the Samoan features. Under the direction of Earl Pierce and O. H. Murphy native Hawaiians will give, interesting illustrations of life on the islands, while Tongan features will be arranged ar-ranged under the direction of A. L. Durham and Alva J. Butler. The outing will close with a big dance in the pavilion. |
